🍷Why we're in denial that wine is an FMCG product Gazing out the train window through the drizzle this morning, I spotted an Uber Wine billboard. I wasn't quick enough to snap it so you'll have to do with this still from an accompanying TV ad and a later pic from the same drizzly commute. But it brought to life something that I was discussing with an industry marketer yesterday - when more than 80% of sales are through the grocery channel, it's hard to argue against wine being an FMCG product. That might sit uneasy. It feels wrong to put it in a similar category to chewing gum, chocolate bars and toilet paper. But if it's true then brand-building has to be the number one priority. The consumer's decision will be fast and instinctive. What do you think?
