Last week, I headed to Arizona to visit AEI HorizonX portfolio company Solestial where I received a first-hand look at their self-repairing flexible space solar panels, which are an innovative and sustainable approach to powering space. I am excited to see Solestial's growth and progress as they expand their operations into a brand-new manufacturing space next door to their current facility. A big thank you to Andy Atherton and Manuel Rosenzweig for the comprehensive and informative tour. #Space #Innovation #Technology

Over the past few months, our team has had a series of meetings to reflect on Solestial’s company mission. We talked about what drives our innovation, what changes we want to see in the #spaceindustry, and our vision for the next ten years. As many in the space industry know, demand for incumbent #spacesolar power technologies, specifically III-V solar cells and panels, vastly outpaces manufacturing capacity. This endemic problem requires bold solutions to allow for sustained development in space. Our mission statement acknowledges this challenge and places Solestial in a unique position to provide a lasting solution. At #Solestial, we exist to deliver abundant energy in #space.

🛰 Article Share 🛰 Does Earth’s future depends on Space? As Tenchijn’s mission is 'Optimising human civilisation activities by harnessing Space Data’, our answer is Yes. The article from Morgan Stanley is included here as it is a companion piece to Tenchijn's mission, stating that satellite technology is key to addressing #climatechange and that these areas could be at the centre of sustainable investments in the future. Article: https://lnkd.in/easmDq5 The article cites the following examples as The benefits of increased space exploration 1. #Food security: Satellites enhance global food security by monitoring illegal fishing, improving traceability, and supporting predictive models for optimizing agricultural yields. 2. #Greenhouse-gas monitoring: Satellites and spectroscopy detect emissions data, including CO2 and natural-gas leaks from various sources. 3. #Utilities: Satellites optimize renewable energy infrastructure, locate solar panel installations, and monitor energy patterns for balancing renewable and nonrenewable sources. 4. Access to #RenewableEnergy: Satellite technology identifies remote areas ideal for solar or wind energy, contributing to the growth of clean power. 5. Supply-demand optimization: Satellite data aids in monitoring the global #supplychain, including mining, transportation, shipping, and demand-creating activities. 6. Internet access: Satellite constellations could provide internet access to billions in regions with impractical traditional infrastructure. 7. Tertiary benefits: Deep space exploration positively impacts sectors such as hydrogen fuel cell technology, robotics, health care, and more. Tenchijin is also in working on 1. food security, 2. greenhouse-gas monitoring, and 4. access to renewable energy. We look forward to the unlimited possibilities offered by space exploration and satellite data. #WorldSpaceWeek #WSE #Space #Spaceexploration #satellite #Tenchijin

Thanks to all participants for their contribution to the success of WindEurope's #WindTech24! We had over 460 participants from all continents (except Antartica... 🐧) We finished the day yesterday with sessions on #LiDAR and the impact of resource on #performance. Marie-Anne Cowan and Gemma Harrington moderated the latter, with Romain Molins finding that atmospheric stability significantly affects #wakemodelling in wind farms, and most current models underestimate wake propagation in very stable atmospheres, indicating room for improvement. Sam Williams gave a very lively presentation of a validation study on turbine interaction modelling at the #Arkona #offshore wind farm, which found variable performance in certain wind direction sectors, indicating unaccounted parameters in the models, and emphasised the benefits of #collaboration. Eliott Lindsay explored blockage effects at the Rødsand 2 wind farm, finding that while blockage effects on #powercurves (#BEPC) exist, their impact is small compared to the induction field of a single turbine, suggesting that correcting for BEPC in measured datasets may not significantly reduce bias on power curves. And Samuel Davoust proposed a new approach for operational assessment and monitoring of wind turbines using physics-based models, which showed promising validation results and was effective in detecting under-performance and incorrect curtailment schemes in case studies. https://lnkd.in/eSiBwsQM Meanwhile, on LiDARs, Laura Valldecabres compared LiDAR turbulence estimates from co-located lidars with met masts at 10 different sites with varying terrain complexity, and discussed the risks and limitations of using LiDAR-only data for site suitability and energy yield assessments on complex sites. Ellie Young addressed the challenges of using Floating LiDAR Systems (FLS) for increasing offshore wind turbine hub heights, revealing significant errors and uncertainties in lidar measurements at higher heights, particularly due to aerosol concentration. And Sara Koller discussed the challenges of using LiDARs in low aerosol atmospheres and during heavy fog, particularly in winter, and presented a method developed by Vaisala to overcome data loss in these conditions, tested at several locations in Switzerland. Lars Landberg and Paula Gomez moderated the Q&A https://lnkd.in/eKefRW_t Mainstream Renewable Power RWE Frazer-Nash Consultancy Tipspeed BlackRock Ramboll Enel Green Power Meteotest AG All the presentation files and audio recordings of all sessions will soon be available in our online proceedings for all attendees and all WindEurope members!

Happy New Year! The The Economist flagged #perovskites in their metrics to watch in 2024: "Most photovoltaic cells are made of silicon, and convert sunlight to electricity with an efficiency of about 23%. Perovskite cells, which use other elements in a particular crystal structure, cost more but offer higher efficiency: over 25%, and over 30% when combined in a “tandem” cell with silicon. So the extra expense can be worth it, particularly in situations where space is tight. Firms in America, Britain, South Korea and Sweden aim to start selling perovskite cells in 2024." Caelux in the "America firm" category. #perovskite #solar #solarenergy #sustainability #technology #climatechange #madeinusa #caelux #IRA Metrics to keep an eye on in 2024, from solar cells to superhero movies https://lnkd.in/g_PtfxKU from The Economist
