#SCOTUS has issued its decision on two related cases today that will affect how federal courts consider the implementation of laws including the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act. Despite some of the troubling implications, The Nature Conservancy remains confident that the federal government—in partnership with local, state and tribal governments; conservation nonprofits; community leaders and others—will continue to be an important leader in protecting people and the planet, an issue that is top of mind for most Americans. Action is needed at every level of society to create the kind of world we want for ourselves and future generations. Kameran L. Onley

Today’s decision by the Supreme Court to overturn the Chevron doctrine will present challenges to preserving the many decades of progress we have made in protecting people and the planet. It will have major implications for implementing and enforcing laws related to such issues as air pollution, public lands management and endangered species protection. The decision impacts the ability of federal agencies to take the actions needed to successfully implement laws enacted by Congress. That is concerning, given the deep scientific expertise and practical experience they have in implementing and enforcing these laws, many which relate to complex and ambiguous issues. I posted about SCOTUS twice this week and believe overturning the Chevron deference essentially takes the guardrails off for corporations in the US. It’s more impactful than Roe v Wade and that’s saying a lot! I enjoyed watching the Gilded Age on HBO but I do not want to live through its second coming. We have to bypass or circumvent these kind of policies and work together for a cleaner future filled with biodiversity, thriving ecosystems, healthy humans, and a prioritization of life over profits.

I heard a rumor that some of the subcontractors were shooting at federal compliance investigators during the collection of data for the prosecution that set up some hefty fines back in the day... I was not there but maybe Jack Smith has something to say about SCOTUS relative to Chevron, Standard Oil, and some of the other mistakes that industry made in resisting the call to INTEGRITY. Please take a moment to remember BOPAL, INDIA. Was that 50,000 killed or injured? Please FACT CHECK ME, my intentions are good, but I am getting a bit slow. Scotus is not required to have any integrity or to even use English and Grammar in a proper manner. The USA has stepped onto the slippery slope with both feet! THE GOP is leading the free fall from GRACE. 😠

The SCOTUS decision is alarming, but not surprising, considering it's makeup and who appointed some of the current members. We environmentalists need to work harder to protect our planet.

This also has a dramatic effect on the ability of the FDA to make acience based decisions. It essentially upends how and if the government vanishes implement executive policy decisions implemented by federal agencies
