Advising MBA candidates for admission to elite programs and transformative growth | Consulting with B2SMB SaaS companies on GTM strategies
An MBA ➡️ a tech career 🟰 A bad idea? As an MBA admissions consultant and tech executive, I think it's important to consider the big picture when assessing future opportunities. A few tips for prospects who are considering tech careers or second-guessing their choices: 📰 Go beyond the headlines: Layoff news attracts eyeballs and clicks, but does reflect some of the industry's realities. Stanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer refers to "copycat layoffs" as an "instance of social contagion, in which companies imitate what others are doing." (NPR, Jan 2024). Candidates must determine whether they can ride the industry's highs and lows. AI is making a huge impact, but I think opportunities for skilled and ambitious workers are there. 👩💻 Read the employment reports: Tech is still a popular career choice for MBA grads. Across the 2023 graduating class, 29.8% of University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business graduates went into tech; 16% of Harvard Business School graduates pursued tech careers; 15.5% of University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business graduates landed tech jobs. FAANG and tech companies of all sizes are recruiting and hiring elite MBAs. 🔮 Optimize for the future: We don't know what the future holds, but if you're starting a full-time MBA program in Fall of 2024 or 2025, you'll re-enter the job market in 2026 or 2027. A lot can – and will – happen in the next couple of years. If a tech career is your dream, go for it. As with anything else, create a back-up plan. What do you think? The tech job market was already suffering post-COVID, and recent layoffs have intensified competition. For fresh graduates, I recommend targeting multiple roles within tech. You can pursue dream roles later when the market stabilizes. For those already in a 9-5 job, keep learning and upskilling, or you'll struggle to keep up with current tech trends when transitioning. What's your strategy to break into the tech industry? #technology #job

We used to think that college degrees were necessary to find good roles in tech and other fields, but Microsoft has joined many other major corporations in placing more consideration on previous experience and skills, instead of an educational pedigree. 20 percent of US jobs on LinkedIn now don't require a four-year degree, and this share of job listings has grown by 30 percent in the last six months alone. Focusing on “skills over schools” will allow leaders to access a wider, more diverse candidate pool, and help to move our 6.4 million unemployed workers into some of the 9.6 million open job roles that exist in the US right now. Learn more about this trend and how we can match talented people with the roles that fit them best by shifting our hiring paradigm: https://lnkd.in/gszhXQdS #Hiring #Skilling #Talent

🎯 I was thinking about Why HR Prefers Employees Not to Leave Early ❓ I looked it up on Google and found a few important aspects. 1. Training Investments Given that most organisations today have a culture of paying for training in order to build skills and that training is increasingly provided online, how can HR make claims about their training investments? 2. Continuity and Stability: In a world where markets are changing quickly, if a firm is prepared to shift its domain, then workers should too. 3. Hiring Expenses: Employers are willing to invest in new hires to cover the expense of hiring, but they are not prepared to keep on board senior and experienced staff members. HR should give it some more thought. For the past 11 years, I have been associated with startups, providing me the opportunity to work closely with fresh B.Tech, MCA, or M.Tech graduates through our annual campus hiring initiatives. During my 17-year career, I've had the privilege of working with around 10-12 different service-based and product-based organizations. However, I've observed a significant gap between what companies expect and what colleges are currently delivering in terms of skills and knowledge. When considering tier 1 or tier 2 colleges, the gap is comparatively smaller than what is evident in tier 3 or tier 4 colleges. You might be wondering: "Why did I feel the need to address this gap?" The question is valid, and here's my answer: Everything starts from within. I come from a tier 4 or lower-level institution, and I faced challenges securing a job when I started my career. I understand the struggles of entering the job market without a solid foundation. Graduates from tier 3 or tier 4 colleges often lack fundamental knowledge, making it challenging for companies to consider them. The idea of bridging this gap has been on my mind for a long time, stemming from my own experiences. Now, with the grace of God or the Universe, I have been given an opportunity to contribute and make a difference. I have initiated this process, and I am open to collaboration with anyone who shares a similar vision. If you believe in this cause, I appreciate your willingness to work with me. This is not a small task; it is a significant vision. However, I am confident and well-prepared to execute this vision with a carefully crafted strategy. Certainly, I will need the support of colleges and universities to make this endeavor successful. I am optimistic that, with the blessings of all of you, we can diligently bridge this gap. Thank you, and I look forward to making a positive impact together. If you share a similar mindset and are genuinely passionate about contributing to society to make a difference, please DM me.

Helping people make Informed Career choices | ex P&G, Microsoft | Entrepreneur | Product Lead | HR100under40 | XLRI | Job Search Consultant | Resume reviewer | Resume Writer | Interview Preparation Coach | Career Coach
As a #fresher, is it better to join an MNC or a startup? When I joined Microsoft after college, there were multiple things running in my mind. Of course, I was super stoked to join and wanted to make an impact. But I was also worried about being just a small fish in a vast ocean. You see, MNCs and startups work quite differently. MNCs offer stability and structure, while startups offer innovation and autonomy. A simple google search will tell you the pros and cons of both. But what would suit you best entirely depends on your personal career goals and preferences. If you prefer stability with clear career paths and structured work environment, then you might thrive more in an MNC. But if you prefer autonomy, higher visibility and are ok with ambiguity, then you might perform better in a startup. So be well aware of your preferences. Joining a startup won't make you cool and joining an MNC won't make you a dud. It all boils down to what you really value in your career. For me, #microsoft was the best thing that happened to me. I learned a lot by working in multiple projects, got to collaborate with people across the world and a company-sponsored trip to the US was just cherry on the cake. So be informed and choose wisely!
