I'm working on the following two roles for a Health/Tech start-up w/ $100M in secured funding. FTE roles and 100% remote. NO VENDORS!!! Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer: Mainly using React (front) and Python (back) but will need knowledge of other technologies like SQL and GCP etc. any Mobile or ML experience is nice to have. Base salary in the $180K-$200K range + annual bonus + equity Staff Software Engineer (Machine Learning): ML focused and back-end Engineer w/ Python. Graph ML, Conversational AI or Feeds/Recommendation Systems experience preferred. Base salary in the $190K-$210K range + annual bonus + equity

This is so true ... not just for software development. The foundation of great business results is teamwork at all levels.
Don't hire a developer. Don't hire a JS dev. Don't hire a Python ML engineer. Don't hire a backend dev. DON'T build a feature team. Build an empowered product team that solves real problems. Work with people who collaborate well, understand the vision, understand the tools, and understand how customers get value. Thanks to Jeremy Stryer for the inspiration for this post format. Two days ago I asked my network about how they’d staff a team of 5 to build a LLM application. Four experts in my network answered. All four said that only one of the five team members should be a scientist. This aligned with my own view. (I’m 2,2,1 SDE,DE,DS) It’s worth reflecting as many enterprises likely hired a lot to data scientists when the Gen AI craze started. I personally recommend that with any new tech craze an enterprise should pull aside one SDE, one DE, and one scientist to dive deep on the tech, figure out what’s possible, and what skillset is needed before developing a staffing plan.

You can hire software development engineers (build front end and back end apps, integrate APIs), data engineers (manage data bases, transform data), and data scientists (build models) What is your team composition?
