Two days ago I asked my network about how they’d staff a team of 5 to build a LLM application. Four experts in my network answered. All four said that only one of the five team members should be a scientist. This aligned with my own view. (I’m 2,2,1 SDE,DE,DS) It’s worth reflecting as many enterprises likely hired a lot to data scientists when the Gen AI craze started. I personally recommend that with any new tech craze an enterprise should pull aside one SDE, one DE, and one scientist to dive deep on the tech, figure out what’s possible, and what skillset is needed before developing a staffing plan.
