Life after stroke support is crucial for optimal recovery and improved quality of life. The National Clinical Guideline for Stroke are explicit on the need for life after stroke services for all. However, despite clear guidelines advocating for universal access to life after stroke services, the implementation remains inconsistent. Thousands of stroke survivors are left without vital support, creating a postcode lottery of care. This is why we are supporting the Stroke Association's ‘Thriving After Stroke’ campaign, which is calling for people to write to their local politician to enquire about local life after stroke services in their area. OK, I'm the writer in our family, so I hope my brother, Mark, and sister, Dawn, (both high school math teachers) don't make fun of my attempt at a mathematic equation. Here it is: In three days, I will join my wife, Jennifer, and her team – Team MonsterS – for Walk MS in Frankenmuth. This will be my 25th time participating in Walk MS since I was diagnosed in 2000. With this, I'm calculating what it will take to encourage you to support my efforts to benefit me, Jennifer, and the nearly 1 million other people in the United States living with this chronic progressive disease. Here is the breakdown of what it will take to raise the remaining $2,000 to reach my $2,600 goal: • 200 people to donate $10 (there is strength in numbers!) • 80 people to donate $25 ($1 for each year I’ve lived with MS) • 40 people to donate $50 • 20 people to match my $100 donation • 10 people to donate $200 • 4 people to donate $500 • 1 person to donate $2,000 (it never hurts to ask!) Each month, we ask a member of the Wealth Matters team to nominate a charity, which we then donate to. Recently, our Client Relationship Manager Chantelle chose Sickle Cell Society. Chantelle said: "I chose SCS because I have sickle cell trait and my cousin has sickle cell disorder. I wanted to give blood to help her and others, as I found out that I have a rare blood group that can help people with sickle cell. As there’s not that much awareness on it and I just wanted to give what I could."
