Nike's interpretation of the St George cross on the collar of the England shirt isn't the first time in recent history there has been pushback on a kit manufacturer for flag issues on a national team kit.
In 2019, Adidas launched the new Russia home shirt with the White, Blue, Red horizontal lines on the cuff of the sleeve. Their interpretation was that when you celebrate you raise your arms above your head, and then you see the Russian flag... However, in " non-celebration mode, " it looked like the Serbian flag.
Notably, Adidas did the same flag pattern on sleeve cuffs that year for Germany and Colombia, but the flag was the correct way round in "non-celebration mode".
My 2c, England have had variations of the St George Cross on their kits before.
Notably the 2006 England home kit (I had one), had the diamond-esque cross on the shoulder - but this WASN'T a unique template, Celta Vigo had the same template but in light blue and complete with the red cross AT THE SAME TIME.
The 2010 Goalkeeper template also featured crosses, the same style as the St George, but in different colours as a repeated pattern.
I think the issue here is that the cross is duotone, it's clearly meant to be the St George cross, but why is it red and blue? At least the other interpretations have been red (red on red, red with white outlines) or a different colour as a solid block - much like the three lions crest has been blue on white, gold, red, white transparent... There have been many variations of this - but the St George cross is different.
