Leaders chronically underestimate the value of their presence. And they overestimate how much effort it takes to give it. Studies show that attention from one’s manager drives the same level of employee engagement as a cash bonus (here’s a research example from Cisco: https://lnkd.in/g7knqPUU). We want to feel seen by our leaders—even in small doses. The challenge is that it’s easy to believe we don’t have time to give our teams undivided attention. When work pulls us in a million directions, it’s tempting to rush through our interactions, multitasking, rather than give our teammates our focused presence.
