This article frustrates me so much. Perhaps there should be a distinct difference between "Open to Work" and "Seeking Work" and LinkedIn could provide both options. As someone who 's position was eliminated, of course I'm open to a job! But I don't want anyone who takes a quick glance to think I'm seeking something outside of my nine to five, which I do not have. "Seeking Work" or "Seeking Employment" could be a clear indicator that I'm in the job market and not looking to jump ship as there is nothing to jump from. But taking the "Open to Work" banner off of my profile, which is the only one available, might take away a potential opportunity from a connection on the platform. As if finding a job wasn't hard enough now we have to deal with these "thought leaders" planting misconceptions about us in the job market. Ugh! #JobSearch #CareerAdvice

This week, Mike Burgess, Talent Acquisition Partner from Gallagher UK shares his tips on how to manage your Social Media before applying for a new job! 🗣 Mike tells us: My 4 key tips are: 1️⃣ Keep your profile up to date On professional platforms such as LinkedIn, I recommend that individuals have a professional photo and make sure the content of the page is factual around your education/work experience/volunteering to date. 2️⃣ Optimise your visibility You can set your profile to open/seek new opportunities and this is a great way of getting interest from both companies and recruiters. 3️⃣ Up your recommendations A hidden gem on LinkedIn is to ask for feedback from ex colleagues, teachers or people you have worked with in the industry. Getting as many recommendations as possible only enhances your profile. 4️⃣ Don't show what you don't want to be seen Social media profiles are more in the public domain than people realise. Whilst this should not influence a hiring manager or hiring process, I do recommend that people pay more attention to their individual personal profiles. Fortunately, social media platforms such as Facebook/Meta, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have privacy settings and I recommend that individuals set these to be as private as possible. Whether you’re an active job seeker or someone casually looking…   🔥 Here are some TIPS to increase your visibility & expose you to more opportunities:   1️⃣ Make it easy for people to find you! 2️⃣ Be responsive!   💡 Make it easy for people to FIND & REACH you!   - On your LI profile, show that you are "Open to Work”. You choose who will see this – All LinkedIn members or Recruiters Only. If you select All LinkedIn Members, your profile will display the green “Open to Work” banner for all to see. If you choose Recruiters Only, only recruiters using LI Recruiter (a separate product that they pay for) will see that you’re open to work. You can also select things such as Job Titles you’re interested in, Work Type (On-site, Hybrid, Remote), Full-Time/Part-Time/Contract, and whether you’re Actively Looking or Casually Looking.   - Add Contact Information to your profile.   - Build out your “About” section; this is where you can (should) show who you REALLY are and what your passionate about. Highlight what makes you tick, your successes, and even the things you like to do outside of work. This allows people to get a feel for the real YOU & it differentiates you from other people. Have fun with it & don't be so formal either - it's not a job description.   - Add Keywords to your profile; you can do so in your Headline, About section, and Experience (under each position).   📢 Recruiters are actively searching LI for candidates using a variety of search criteria (i.e., those listed above); the more details you add to your profile, the easier it is for them to find you.         💡 Be responsive!   - Regularly check your DMs, email, voice mail, & reply quickly!   It’s amazing how many candidates tell us their interested in new opportunities but aren’t responsive.   Good opportunities can go quickly. You don’t want to miss out on what could be your next great opportunity because you’re slow to respond.   Those 2 things alone can increase your visibility & expose you to more opportunities.   Set yourself up for success!     #jobsearchtips #careeradvice #jobseekers

There is no right answer for how to find a job in this market. Everyone seems to have an opinion, but mostly what I have seen is people claiming to have cracked the code on this job market by offering changes that the candidate needs to make to stand out. So people spend hours changing their profile because really smart people with a lot of followers said they should. Stark reality: They haven’t broken a code, and what they are promoting isn’t going to net you a role. You will have a nice CV, though, which is great to have in order to be competitive. I, and a boatload of people I am connected with have done all of the tips. We only submit customized CV’s, send follow up emails, leverage our networks, source roles on multiple job boards, apply directly on company websites, use recruiting firms, don’t apply to things we aren’t qualified for, always apply for things we aren’t qualified for, make sure our LinkedIn profile matches our resume, all of the tips that people have solicited, and yet we are all still #opentowork today. Everyone is just pushing what they think works or what they’ve seen work for candidates. It’s all subjective. The truth is that you can do all of this and still not get any callbacks, be ghosted by companies, and be left wondering what you are doing wrong. It is simply a very competitive market and being competitive takes work. The ONLY “tip” that will actually lead to a new role is that you just have to keep showing up for yourself every day putting in the work to find your next role. #motivation #careers #jobsearch #tipsandtricks #showup

Pro Tip for Job Seekers! 🚀 When searching for bigger opportunities, don't get trapped by paid consultancy services. Use your common sense: 1. Visit Company Websites: Every major company has a dedicated career section on their website. Check it regularly for the latest job openings. 2. Reach Out Directly: Sending a thoughtful email to an HR manager can be a great way to get noticed. Be professional and concise. 3. Meaningful Actions Over Comments: Simply commenting "interested" on job posts won't get you hired. Take proactive steps to make a real impact. YES! "Should you announce that you’re open to new jobs?" Here's why: If you don't tell people that you're open to new jobs, how is anyone supposed to know that you are? They're not telepathic. A headhunter or potential employer will only approach you 90% of the time if they see that you're available. If you don't say it then they will just move onto someone else! There are a myriad of ways that you can let people know that you're available. These range from saying it on your headline and banner on LinkedIn to being subtle and creating posts which talk about your work experiences and what you have learnt and what you could do for your next firm. Content marketing is a great way of letting people know that you're available either directly or indirectly. But fundamentally if you're out of a job then tell people that you're available now, if you're in a job then it depends on how comfortable you are saying it but ultimately if you've decided to move on and you see no career progression where you then your boss probably knows that you're looking for a new job anyway so go for it on social media too! Still looking................ Three weeks into my job search and I thought I'd just share some thoughts on the experience: - Ghosting still seems to be the norm, I've shared my thoughts on this many, many times. A simple "Thanks but no thanks" templated email takes seconds to send. Remember, you might be an overworked TA professional or recruiter but you have a job, a lot of those you are ignoring don't. - Click-bait adverts are much more insulting than ghosting, reposting an old LinkedIn advert with a link that goes via a CV & email harvesting site and then sending the candidate back to the original (now expired) ad is more than a little frustrating. - Job Title searches may work for many but after a certain stage in one's career one will probably be capable of multiple roles so keywords are slightly better. - The first application of the day is the hardest, I've checked my email for any feedback and need to motivate myself to start again. - After the first one I tend to find my mojo again and realise today's jobs will probably fit me better than those older ones! (#positivethinking) - Before taking a recruitment 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒕'𝒔 advice, check their bio, make sure they have a basis for claiming expertise! - a random reach-out call from an agent, even without a specific role behind it, does wonders for one's positivity Finally, job searches can just as easily be done from a beachside café so I'm off to Spain on Monday with laptop and headset so feel free to connect! #opentowork #availableimmediately #expertinlotsofthings 😊 Oh - an adding the opentowork tag to a post gets a flurry of immediate (& therefore pre-prepared) messages from "coaches" allegedly working for named companies but with locations in Nui, Tuvalu etc..... 🤣 😂
