For the second time in 5 years, I'm experiencing lots of pivots in my work - as many of us are. 🔀 COVID had many of us shift both our external-facing work and our own workstyles overnight. 🦠 The war in Israel and related surge in antisemitism are deeply influencing many of my projects as well. A convening focused on Israel education offerings in North America - postponed. ✋ A strategic plan focused on discourse and relationship building in the Jewish community - reimagined and even more relevant. 💬 An emergency leadership meeting on confronting anti-semitism locally - planned practically overnight. 🚨 The emotional whiplash is the hard part. The work pivots are the meaningful part, as we try our best to stay afloat in a gut-wrenching time.

Recently I was involved in the formation of a religious Youth League and puzzled over what this youth group would achieve in the short, medium and long term. My mandate was to bring together the youth and create a vehicle for them to learn and develop towards a more religious driven social and educational direction that will probably lead to a career driven future them. The group is made up of youth at different levels of schooling, right up to university level. Obviously their level of understanding and maturity differs however I have to guide them equally towards careers of their choices whilst grounding them in learning fir the future. First I had to discover their level of knowledge on the following: 1. The South African political dispensation 2. The social environment and its impact on their every day existence 3. Impact of Living in a multi cultural environment in a South African township, suburb or city. I have created debating groups who will research the above topics for presentation. I have at the same time introduced a team concept approach and leadership as the groups have to choose leaders, who will then delegate responsibility for presentation among team members. Over the next few weeks I will organize career discussion sessions through identified mentors and run that process parallel to the knowledge and learning base to built a complete youth League geared towards a successful future in life.

This is actually a thing. Glad it worked out for the president of one liberal arts college, the one who is quoted. But after last week, perhaps the offerings should include: 1. What free speech really should mean 2. The new DEI — Dare (to uplift all), Encourage, Inspire — everyone at the expense of no one. 3. Crisis Management, including what to say and who to call if anyone tries to take over your office. 4. How to Testify Before Congress 5. How to Initiate a Sabbatical Program in Iran for faculty who support Hamas and a similar study abroad program for students who do the same. 6. Arts and Crafts: how to build your own moral compass. 7. Daily Phys Ed Program — Spine-strengthening exercises. 8. Why Donors from Totalitarian Nation States Might be Problematic. All suggestions welcome. The course offering provides an email address to which you might want to direct your suggestions. (As an aside, it would be great to see the actual curriculum and syllabus).

Podcasting is a good tool for communication because it gives an exclusive platform for oral and verbal communication without the requirement or interference from visual noise. It forces the listener to give their full attention to the voices. When I was researching OERs, specifically in UNESCO's ideas database, I found many different free lessons and resources open to the entire world's educaators for bettering their programs. I liked the article and idea I read on Leaderhood; https://lnkd.in/dD62SBhs I think OERs are key to education because they provide a library/sanctuary of educational resources open to everyone.
