Today is Global Wellness Day, a time to reflect on how we can live healthier lives and prioritise our wellbeing for the long-term. We’re doing a major piece of work with NHSE to build a culture of staff wellbeing across the NHS. So, over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a series of posts to describe and develop our thinking about fostering workplace wellbeing. Although staff wellbeing has always been fundamental to organisational sustainability, it is even more important in our post-Covid, Generation Z world where staff mental health, sickness absence and retention challenge us all. What could our organisations be like to work for - and what could they achieve - if our workforce was flourishing? How far can we really support wellbeing through the workplace when there are so many other factors at play? We see workplace wellbeing as one of the 8 inter-related dimensions (as shown below in the model by CSU Pueblo) and a key enabler of the other seven. This is why we’re advocating for new and more effective approaches to generate workplace wellbeing. Happy first #WellnessWednesday of February! This month, let's continue our journey to make healthier decisions and enhance the well-being of both our cherished residents and dedicated team members. Our focus remains on making wellness accessible and integral to daily life, understanding that even the smallest changes can yield significant impacts on overall health and happiness. Strategies from our Chief Wellness Officer: Exercise Integration: Opt for stairs instead of elevators, park farther away for a bit of extra walking, and join residents in exercise activities. Mindfulness at Work: Incorporate short meditation or mindful breathing breaks to refocus during the workday. Healthy Eating: Bring healthy snacks like nuts or yogurt to work and choose whole foods for meals. Hydration: Carry a reusable water bottle and set reminders for regular water intake. Mental Wellness: Engage in team challenges and continuous learning opportunities to foster a positive work environment.
