One of my biggest hopes on AI is that the charity sector doesn't repeat the mistakes of the past. 🙏
I remember the clamour OVER A DECADE AGO for discussion on digital at the "top table". "Digital leaders" on the executive team, but also "digital trustees" on the board.
One reason for this was the hope that if there is understanding of digital at the top, there'll be more support for the adaptation and change necessary. There'll be more pressure to undertake a transformation.
Many years on and this still hasn't really happened in many (but not all) non profits. And many charity digital programmes are missing opportunities as a result. Or facing huge challenges in an increasingly digital world.
I don't think the sector can repeat the same mistake on AI.
Charity leaders have a duty of care to our workers to be engaging NOW on what AI means for them.
Charity leaders must understand AI's impact on their social impact and missions, to plan how the organisation can adapt and transform.
That's why I'm so pleased to have worked with Zoe Amar FCIM on a "Checklist on AI for Trustees") and received inputs from Kaz McGrath, my co-founder at Plai: Purpose led AI.
We need UK charity trustees to be asking the right questions at a pivotal time. The checklist aims to help them do that.
Comment on the post below or email Zoe on zoe@zoeamar.com if you'd like to help us test it out.
Earlier this year, Zoe Amar FCIM and Nick Scott ran an emerging tech round table for charity leaders to find out what they needed to support them. The attendees requested an AI checklist to help them start the conversation and review progress with their trustees.
Zoe and Nick have drafted a checklist and are aiming to launch it in Trustees Week in November. If you'd like to test it out, please comment below or email Zoe at zoe@zoeamar.com.
Many thanks!
