Read the NADOHE statement a few times. Then conceptualization the omission of women studies programs in the state of FL due to the disbielf of sexism in this nation. Would you send your female, or non-binary child to study there? Better question— are womxn treated equally in this nation? Even better question— why do we have women studies in the first place. Now, compare your case conceptualization to what our siblings in Florida have done… Florida, my siblings, you are regressing. You have unleashed an attack on civil rights, on the inherent worth of all, on dignity and worth of all, on social “justice”. The new questions are: - Who benefits from your behavior? - Who suffers from your behavior? - Who gives you the privilege to determine worth of folx? - Who are you? I am personally calling you to #fixit now!

BILL COMING DUE FOR ERRANT UNIVERSITY SPENDING AND EXPANSION West Virginia University - currently led by former Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee - is like many other flagship state universities that face deficits and major cuts after years of excessive spending. Gee, as well as current and former members of the WVU board, blame the institution’s financial challenges on the pandemic and state funding cuts, as well as competition and demographic changes. But a Wall Street Journal review of the university's financial records shows that its spending habits and expansion plans set it on a path to instability. WVU's $45 million budget deficit has prompted administrators to propose eliminating dozens of programs, including the mathematics Ph.D. and the entire world languages department. Students staged a spirited protest on campus last week, and faculty are pleading with the school’s governing board to reject the recommended cuts.   West Virginia reflects a broader pattern of flagship schools increasing expenditures far faster than they did enrollment, as detailed in a recent Wall Street Journal investigation. The proposed cuts have caused concern over the direction of education in the state, among the nation’s poorest, and the school’s role as a stepping stone for local students into the global economy. https://lnkd.in/eenNKCnd

In a public letter, three West Virginia University faculty have bravely spoken out against the debilitating cuts planned by their university's administration. I wanted to share a quotation in which they connect these cuts to public higher education in their state with the present and future health of our nation's democracy. They write: "The crucial role of public universities to democracy is why the most important battles in the modern history of our country—from the Black freedom struggle to antiwar organizing—have happened on the campuses of public universities. Now is no different; this is our crossroads." Public universities are an investment in the public. I concur with the authors of this letter that the irresponsible, devastating decimation of WVU by its administration will inflict long term damage on the people of West Virginia and beyond. Public education is positive freedom. A friend shared this information, citing SDSU as their source: "San Diego State University, which is one of the 23 California State University campuses, announced Friday that it set a new record for the number of applications from first-year undergraduates for fall 2022. The university received 76,792 applications from all 50 states and 74 countries." My reflexive response was: that's a very institution-centered statistic. I can see why a school might promote that information. And, what I really want to know is: What does that mean for their students? And also their employees? Is SDSU commensurately "setting new records" in their experiences of safety, access, dignity, belonging and thriving? How is their promise to "dare you to learn more, do more, be more" (SDSU) going for the entirety of their community? I'm not knocking the university. I'm wondering (once again) what is really worth bragging about in the "competitive schools" competition. What do students and families need and deserve to know? Because in addition to time and money, education is an investment of trust.

Cornell University will be extending its test-optional policy for at least one more cycle while Vanderbilt University will be extending its policy for at least three more years. Most universities are extending such policies rather than reinstating test score requirements. #GreatCollegeAdvice #CollegeAdmissions #TestOptional
