Big changes are afoot in the media landscape in Finland as Swedish Bonnier News acquires ownership of HSS Media, the company that publishes all Swedish language newspapers in Ostrobothnia. Last year Bonnier News acquired a shareholder majority in KSF Media which publishes all major Swedish language newspapers in the Nyland region of Finland. If the latest deal goes through (still has to be approved by the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority) it means that a majority of the Swedish newspapers in Finland will be owned by the same company. What will this mean in practice? Hard to tell Will this be a good change in the long run? I don’t know. As a subscriber to (and former journalist at) one of the newspapers involved, it will surely be interesting to see what will come. Hopefully, this change will have a positive outcome for the consumers
