It can be easy when I look at my calendar and to-do list to frame my day as a series of things I have to do. When I choose instead to think of meetings and activities as things I get to do , choose to do, all aspects of my job become a little more rewarding. * That cross-functional meeting where I have to drive alignment becomes an opportunity to get to be curious about another team or leader's POV and probably learn something along the way. * The call with the upset customer becomes a chance to discover how to serve them better and understand out how to better support my team in their work. * The monthly reporting deck is a way for me to showcase the accomplishments of my team and identify the support we need from leadership to overcome challenges. The lists and meetings don't change but when my attitude does the work and I are better for it. [This post inspired by Jess Sims, one of my favorite Peloton Interactive instructors, who is always reminding us that the opportunity to do hard work and grow stronger is a privilege.]

New Year, More Goals. Dear Linkedin family, I hope it’s not too late to wish you a Happy New Year🌟 Whilst everyone is gradually settling back to work from all the festivities of Christmas and the New year, it’ll help to plan out your year once again and set out a vision board, to envision what you aim to achieve. You could break it down into quarters to make it easy to track and find accountability partners where necessary. In all, work has started and this PM right here has a lot of goals to achieve, and like they say, “make hay while the sun shines”; that’s exactly what I’m doing. Two products I worked on and contributed to, will he going live this first quarter and I can’t wait to share the news with you all. Upon stepping into the CEO role at Peloton, Barry McCarthy sent a memorable email to the whole team. These 10 guiding principles he envisions for the company resonated with me quite a bit: 1. What do you love? ❤️ It's a simple question that can lead to profound insights. Recently, I asked our local office team to share things they love - not just about work, but their lives outside of it. Going below the waterline with people gives you a new experience, helps you understand one's motivation, and their "why." It's the most rewarding part of my job. As leaders, we often focus on the work-related aspects of our team members' lives, but taking the time to learn about their passions outside of work can be just as valuable. It fosters a deeper connection and can help us better understand what drives our colleagues. So, what do you love? Take a moment to ask your team and see what you can learn. It might just surprise you. ❤️

It was 5 times harder than before. This is what I learned: You know that moment of realization where every pedal stroke feels like a monumental effort? That was me hopping back on my Peloton after a holiday hiatus. That day I learned some universal truths: 1. Consistency leads to wins. For a year, I worked out consistently: ◦ Energy was up. ◦ Creativity flowed. ◦ I was usually positive. Then the holidays hit. I lost consistency. I lost: My stamina, strength, and spirit. 2. Practice + persistence = mastery. Whether you want to excel at work, in life or even on LinkedIn: • Show up. • Show up again. • Show up again and again. 3. You are stronger after a comeback. Just because you failed - it doesn’t mean you failed. Failing is vital for success. It’s never too late. You’re never too old. The climb back may be steep… But it’s full of lessons and opportunities to surpass our former selves. P.S. What’s that one thing you want to start again?

Nobody told me how to get promoted. Naively, I thought getting promoted was about doing great work. Finally, a Senior Leader at Nike pulled me aside and explained otherwise. (Ok, so someone did eventually tell me!) The counter intuitive knowledge they shared was that ‘great work’ would only get me so far. I need to show my soft skills - leadership, negotiating, influencing, presenting. And I needed to be vocal about where I wanted to go next. Because apparently, no-one had any idea I wanted to get promoted. Except me and this Senior Leader 🤦🏻♀️ Not being vocal about what I wanted was one of the biggest career mistakes.
