Hello everyone! I am elated to share that my first ever article got published. It revolves around the inorganic divide between public and private for abandoned street kids, the statistical hiatuses prevalent in measuring the gravitas of the issue and the creation of imaginary boundaries of existence (Foucault's spatial-power nexus). It also touches upon Antonio Gramsci's idea of 'false consciousness' and how we all are in the constant urge to find a 'home'. The ideas of urban planning and architecture have also been explained. Abstracts for the Docomomo US National Symposium Miami are due Thursday January 11th. The symposium seeks to promote a broader understanding of the accomplishments of postwar to Postmodern architecture and culture in regionally specific contexts such as South Florida, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Themes to be explored include: Tropical Brutalism, Postwar campus planning in the (sub)tropics, Postwar tourism, urban renewal and Interstate infrastructure, the “Pink Revolution” or Modern architecture and popular culture in south Florida, polychrome Modern & the integration of the arts, and more. Researchers, practitioners, and Modern enthusiasts alike are encouraged to submit abstracts that align with the stated thematic goals. As the definition, scope and limitations of urban design profession is adapting and transforming with other fields of knowledge, shifting focus back to the core subject of my interest again.

TOMORROW at Ministarstvo prostora / Ministry of Space!! This Tuesday at 6pm, we will have great lecture about urban conflicts, and the lecturer will be Gabu Heindl: architect and urban planner in Vienna. Her lecture will be structured around current anti-capitalist assemblies and struggles over housing and public space. When commons and public space have to be defended and expanded against capital takeovers, the politics of radical democracy maintain the task of deepening democratic relationships. A radical-democratic conception of architecture and urbanism connects with popular agency originating with democratic social and political movements. Entering alliances with anti-racist or feminist politics, planning enters into such articulations not without critically examining his or her own role. While planning is too often prone to narrowing the scope of their concerns and, therefore, to practices of “solutionism”, Gabu would rather tackle socio-political contexts, conflicts and contradictions by offering for discussion the concept of “nonsolution”. She will unfold these topics with regard to her architectural practice within current anti-capitalist and intersectional struggles over housing and public space as well as in correspondence to the research at their department ARCHITECTURE CITIES ECONOMIES at Kassel University on issues of ownership and, more generally, political economy within architecture and urban planning.
