And just like that #IDPD #idpwd #IDPWD23 has arrived... Here's what I've been thinking about... The fantastic response response from Tesco colleagues to our 2 main campaigns in such close quarters #DisabilityConfident and our IDPD celebrations. I was privileged to produce and deliver our Disability Confident Leader campaign across the Tesco group. It was great to dust of my ole broadcasting skills! I wish I could share some of the highlights from colleagues... it's been a phenomenal year. On disability more generally: The fact that things are moving in society but not nearly as quickly as they should be... - #Disability pay and employment gaps are as big as they ever were and the UK Government is still blinking on mandatory reporting which could be key in driving things forward - Some really good #representation this year but media and ads are patchy - #Adjustments for those supplying goods and services can still be hit and miss and transport are sectors that need particular improvement However, equally reasons to be cheerful... I meet people that regularly champion and talk about disability more regularly Some of the struggles I had when I was a kid have gotten less - access, people talking directly to me for example We have an amazingly passionate disabled community across the country and cyberspace helping us drive change nationally and beyond And lastly but probably most personally for me, it's been a year of personal change. As an alma mater of Bournemouth University from yesteryear I've been reflecting on our university motto "Discere Mutari Est". "To Learn is to Change". I've tried to learn a lot this year... I've tried to make changes too - but sharing your knowledge and experiences with others is what counts... because you can help them change too. Sending my warmest greetings to you on IDPD! J

Well here we are the #disability Christmas Eve.. as we count down to #IDPD #idpwd One wonders what you'd leave out for the disability Santa. Answers in the comments perhaps... Earlier in the week I was joined by our partners from AccessAble, Shaw Trust and Whizz Kidz as they talked to colleagues about the work they do for us at Tesco . Not forgetting the amazing support from our friends at Mondelēz International for teaching colleagues basic BSL signs... along with some delicious #Cadbury chocolate to sweeten the deal. Thank you! Our Heart building is a beacon PurpleSpace #PositivelyPurple I swear it gets brighter each time I see it... Everyone knows it's early to bed on Christmas Eve... otherwise you don't see the magic happen... 😉 💜

Change is hard. It takes a special group of people to show up, be counted, role-model and have conversations that drive us forward. So delighted to be celebrating #disabilityhistorymonth with the folks from PurpleSpace #Positivelypurple and of course some of my favourite people from Tesco. So often, we forget to pause and recognise what we can achieve as a collective. I was so happy to be joined on the The lastminute.com London Eye by some of our colleagues who supported our brilliant internal #disabilityconfident Leader launch a few months ago. Last night was a rare occasion to pause on our progress as a business, as a network but also as a community and it was great to catch up with friends old and new. Disability is all about lived experiences that are different for everybody. As we count down to #IDPD23 #idpwd #IDPWD23 I want to thank the amazing #DisabilityAtTesco steerco and colleagues who have delivered disability-related projects for their awesome work this year. There'll doubtless be more from me over the next week... so stay tuned! Lastly, some PWDs can find things especially challenging in winter months. If that's you, remember: you're worth it, you're valuable and you have a voice that should be heard. #disability

Some reflections from #DIGLIVE Diversity & Inclusion in Grocery today... Really loved the speed networking sessions. Haleon did a great job explaining how they've shifted the gear on expanding their leave policies. Weetabix also described how their colleagues muck in to make a difference without a formal D&I remit. Mohammad Koheeallee and the team from The Coca-Cola Company #CCEP did a brilliant job of articulating what they're doing for #disabled colleagues. A subject close to my heart 💜. Nestlé offered a deep-dive into what they've done to turn the dial on diverse recruitment. All in all a thought-provoking day. Of course I'm always proud that one of the biggest teams was represented by Tesco and my warm congratulations go to our very own Nichola Swallow (Chartered MCIPD) who guided delegates through the innovative steps we've taken as a business to make sure our managers fully understand what being inclusive in Tesco looks like. Still loads to do in the space but always inspired to be my best at this event to continue the conversation and more importantly commit to meaningful change. PS. here's some snappy highlights!
