For everyone that knows me, they’ll know that sustainability and sustainable development are subjects I’m deeply passionate about - they’re always my favourite part at every #TOC! Today is “Sustainability Day” at #TOCAmericas, and we have kicked started it with a session titled “Strategizing Sustainability in the Business”, and what does that mean? Sustainability is not just planting trees (🤷🏻♂️), it’s about ensuring that whatever our business is, it can last in the long-term (⏳) for which we need to factor in environmental (🌱), social (👥), organisational (📈) and operational (⚙️) impacts. How do we do this? How do we measure our impact? How do we implement KPIs? By integrating sustainability-related strategies into our core activities. Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT an expert (I wish… 😅), but I’m passionate about learning, and the UN #SDGs are an excellent way to group all these topics, build up a strategy and aim for milestones that allow us to learn how well we are doing (or where we need to improve). As such, I’m thrilled to see that all speakers at this session are addressing the UN #SDGs - it shows that by taking sustainability seriously we can have an actual positive impact while continuing to do business. To celebrate #WorldEnvironmentDay, I had a lovely morning talking with the team at isla at LinkedIn HQ for “Partner for the Planet”. Key takeaways from the event… The wonderful Christianne (Chrissie) Beck and Sara Kassam discussing their work on UK Sport's sustainability strategy and commitment to be Net Zero Positive by 2040.  UK Sport have mandated that all major events need to be measured and have a plan in place to reduce climate impact. Huge strides ahead for the sporting world. Chris Barrett (LinkedIn) shared the #stat of the week: Brands active in sustainability attract five times more decision-makers on LinkedIn. So through getting your sustainability strategy straight and sharing it, you’re attracting new business and budget holders. If you ever needed MORE reason to get cracking? Also: LinkedIn have seen 28% increase in posts about #sustainability and the topic now accounts for 3% of posts worldwide.  Keep talking!! Great to also hear from Leigh Cowlishaw (Percy) discussing a fascinating data-driven study in rail travel. Business travel is always the second highest area of emissions for The Bulb’s clients and I'm always keen to hear about initiatives that can support bringing this impact down. **Bigger announcement on what was behind my speaking slot tomorrow…** One of the biggest takeaways was the power in partnership. Our industry does not operate in silo - we need the strength of our clients, suppliers, agencies, creatives, producers, venues - to create just one event. And we need to apply the same mentality and collaboration to sustainability.  No one can be Net Zero until we’re all Net Zero. 🌿 Green Opportunity – Re-design the Future ✨ We are thrilled to share the success of our 1st Kick-off Meeting for the Green Opportunity Project, held on June 3rd & 4th, 2024 in our city Patras, Greece! The KA2 Small Partnership Project 2023-3-BG01-KA210-YOU-000180593 "Green Opportunity" is dedicated to introducing the environmental benefits of circular economy to young people. We aim to inspire and encourage a new way of thinking about production and consumption that integrates natural ecosystems into our daily lives, businesses and waste reduction efforts. Our 1st kickoff meeting brought together passionate individuals from Bulgaria (Браншова Асоциация Полимери and Get Involved / Включи се и ти), Croatia (More Coaching) and Greece (Liofyllo), united by the common goal of creating a sustainable future. The project focuses on creating engaging and educational animated videos and toolkits about the circular economy, disseminating them through social media and video platforms and sparking social media challenges with unique hashtags to encourage active participation and responsibility among youth. The discussions and activities over these two days have set a strong foundation for our mission to combat the negative environmental impacts of the current “take-make-dispose” economy. We are excited to empower young people with practical tools and techniques to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and contribute to the circular economy. This project will foster a sense of initiative and active citizenship among young people while promoting creative learning, intercultural dialogue, and the joy of diversity. Hello friends in Asia, If you know me, then you must have heard me raving about the Ecoversities Gatherings. I find these gatherings curated with heart and soul, and miles apart from common conferences that feel quite boring most times and focus far more on sharing business cards than common cause and connection. Each year, there happens a global gathering and a few different regional gatherings. The Asia Regional Gathering is new and started last year in Thailand. This year it comes to Vietnam, from 30 Oct to 03 Nov, 2023. An ecoversity gathering is an unconference, with much care for the individual, their thoughts, their well-being and their dreams. Everyone enters on an equal footing, and each person has an opportunity to take the stage, share or sit back and listen, or step out and connect in smaller groups, or find silence and solitude. The discussions are about the most important challenges we face as humanity and eco-systems, and how, in small and big ways, we are trying to resolve them through a regenerative approach, which is what ties us all together. The participants are people who believe that change must be created collectively. Many are running or participating in amazing projects around the world, but also many participants are at this point curious and want to begin their interaction with people who have already dipped their feet. Finally, this is an inclusive safe-space, where you have the freedom to choose your beliefs, and yet where you open yourself up vulnerable to thoughts and ideas very different from yours. There are still a few spots left, and I wanted to take the opportunity to extend an invitation on behalf of the organising team to people living in Asian countries. Indians can apply, but I am told that we are already too many and there would be a limit so that there is diversity. This is a small and intimate gathering after all. If you are an alt educator, sustainability practitioner, changemaker, community builder, development profesional, social-projects funder or an influencial decision-maker, I think you should not miss it. 🌍🌿 The "Climate Catalyst" collective takes off at Saint-Gobain! 🌿🌍 Ending this year with a seminar bringing together such a committed Collective at Saint-Gobain was an incredible experience! This event was much more than just a meeting: 🌟 An European gathering: nearly 40 committed employees from several European countries: UK, Italy, Hungary, Germany and France, in anticipation of a wider roll-out in Europe and internationally!   ⚡ Positive energy and employee commitment: The driving force behind our progress towards a sustainable future, a diversity of profiles and backgrounds that enriches us and enables us to challenge status quos! 🎉 A moment of celebration: pride in having achieved the Climate Fresk for already more than 33,000 Saint-Gobain Group employees, with an exceptional community of 1,300 internal animators. Congratulations to all the teams, and a big thoughts for all the teams I had the chance to met !   💡 Discussion and action proposals: An approach via an open forum stimulating reflection on various topics enabling milestones to be set for actions in 2024. 🤝 Creating links, networking and a thriving community: Weaving strong ties to build a solid future for this collective. 🏞️ A committed, eco-responsible seminar, reflecting our values: The embodiment of our shared commitment reflected in this low-carbon event (vegan/vegetarian meals, an alternative and inclusive venue, in a sober, low-tech setting) : a proof that when you want to have a low carbon event, you can!
