The Art of Staying Relevant to stay Resilient- On a cold rainy New York day a Broadway show can be the perfect escape from the dreary weather! That is what I realised last weekend when I made a spontaneous decision to catch the Broadway show - MJ: the Musical based on the life of the late Michael Jackson - arguably the greatest entertainer of all time. The show itself has been a huge success winning 4 Tony awards for it’s phenomenal performances and attention to details.However the key theme that struck me was perhaps the importance of staying relevant in an ever changing landscape of the music industry or for that matter any industry. The innovation showcased within the musical production is evident in various aspects of its execution, including: Technological Advancements: Incorporating cutting-edge technology such as immersive stage design and special effects to create a visually stunning and dynamic experience for audiences. Creative Acting and direction: Pushing artistic boundaries through innovative acting skills,choreography, set design, and costume concepts that pay homage to Jackson's iconic style while also infusing contemporary elements to captivate audiences across demographics. Narrative Adaptation: Crafting a compelling narrative structure that goes beyond a traditional biographical portrayal thus engaging audiences on multiple levels. Music Integration and audience engagement: Utilizing innovative audio engineering techniques to breathe new life into his timeless hits that kept the audience thoroughly engaged. The pivotal lesson for sales from the innovation demonstrated in the musical lies in the significance of remaining relevant and responsive to evolving consumer preferences and expectations. In my opinion, sales professionals can maintain a competitive advantage and effectively connect with their target audience by continuing to embrace innovation across product designs, marketing strategies, and customer experiences even when times and preferences change. This was a rather eye opening example of an enduring brand loyalty by assuring it stays relevant in this case long after the singer’s passing and perhaps for many more years to come. #broadway #newyork #sales #customerexperience #michaeljackson

It’s hard to believe it's been almost two decades since I was at MTV’s VMAs 🎶 Since I was a young kid, music has been part of my passion and purpose. I remember going over to my grandmother’s house and turning on the television to watch MTV as a child. I’ve witnessed the ever-changing landscape of the music industry, as artists embraced new styles, broke norms, and crafted their unique identities.    MTV’s shift from just music to reality TV and other entertainment formats showcased the industry's desire to capture a wider audience and adapt to the digital era...not something I’m quite into but I do get it. One thing that’s always been important to me as a recording artist is that I get to own my artistry. With everything digital and videos being a necessity, I think the lines are getting very blurred. Part of my purpose is to ensure other artists truly own their voice and artistry, especially in a landscape where artists can easily become mere pawns of the industry. That’s part of the reason why I became Chairman of the Board for Accesr, a tech company that’s supporting artists to truly own their intellectual property and data. Beyond the incredible music, "Kendrick vs. Drake" has become a fascinating case study in branding. It's not just about diss tracks – it's about how K.Dot's strategic approach has solidified his fanbase and boosted awareness for his ventures. Here's my breakdown of the key takeaways from this cultural moment: ▪Research & Strategy: Kendrick's approach to the beef is a powerful reminder of the importance of research. He strategically gathered information about Drake's *alleged* seedy actions and even insights into diss tracks Drake was working on. By understanding the landscape and competitor moves, brands can stay ahead of the game. ▪Creativity with Layers: Kendrick's "6:16 in LA" produced by T.Swift's long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff (a jab at Drake's "Taylor Made") was genius! New Post: WME Leadership Announces New Organizational Structure For Contemporary Music - https://lnkd.in/d7SXzvYp - WME’s music leadership team outlined a new organizational structure for the company’s contemporary music department today in a company-wide memo, detailing strategic changes for the Endeavor-owned agency built around A&R, bookings and crossover opportunities. In a memo to WME’s contemporary music department, global head of contemporary music Lucy Dickins and global co-head of contemporary music Kirk Sommer further detailed their plans, introduced over the summer months, to build upon the 45,000 concerts their team booked in 2023. Related Ice Spice Signs With WME for International Representation 12/13/2023 For A&R, which covers new artists signings and artist development, “new artist discovery will be coordinated across all genres and regions,” the memo explains. “Given the globalization of our business and the speed at which new artists break today, we believe this is a critical piece to identifying new talent. Kevin Shivers will be leading these efforts on behalf of the team, working with regional and genre leads.” For booking, Dickens and Sommer explained, WME will continue to build upon its “multiple regional servicing groups, including an Asia-Pacific presence, Latin-American team, and a robust European operation,” the memo reads. Ron Opaleski will lead global bookings and international touring strategy across North America, while Tony Goldring will lead similar efforts for the company’s international clients. Josh Kurfirst will lead efforts on behalf of festivals, Clint Mitchell will lead non-traditional touring and Ryan Jones will cover the company’s private and corporate events. Dickens and Sommer wrote also detailed changes at the company’s crossover department, which the two leaders said “is our #1 differentiator.” “Given its importance,” the memo explained, “WME partner Keith Sarkisian will be stepping in to oversee the coordination of non-touring services for the agency’s roster, working with divisions from across WME and Endeavor.” That includes working with Dvora Englefield, WME partner/head of new music strategy, “who will continue to identify new business opportunities and strategic partnerships on behalf our artists.” Citing “the growth across each of our offices,” Dickens and Sommer also announced the appointment of the company’s first-ever regional office leads, managed by Brian Aherns who oversees operations for the music team.
