World Braille Day celebrates how someone’s contribution can make a difference to so many lives. Braille is a form of written language for the blind, developed by Louis Braille in 1827, in which characters are represented by patterns of raised dots that are felt with the fingertips. Even in times of economic uncertainty, we each have a deep reserve of generosity, which we can deploy in myriad ways to make a difference--your time, your kindness, your skills, your voice are all things you can give in addition to charitable donations. #GivingTuesday is November 28, 2023. We believe that no Great Dane should be neglected, abused, or abandoned. In 2023 so far, we've rescued 492 Great Danes, which is nowhere close to our typical numbers because we simply cannot take in Great Danes without donations. Last year we had an intake of 800 Great Danes by the end of the year. Veterinarians have raised their prices tremendously this year and have forced us to reduce our intakes to give the care to each Great Dane that comes through our rescue the care it deserves. We now spend $600 on average per Great Dane. That number could be inflated because of the amount of bad medical cases we have had this year, but it's still a part of the grand total. On top of our need for more donations and better luck, we need more fosters to step up that are responsible and motivated to take care of the Great Danes that come in to our rescue neglected and in terrible conditions.
