Yesterday, we had the honor of announcing our 2024 Clare Rose Sabbatical Grantees. It was a deeply meaningful day, filled with the humble recognition that we are making a nonprofit leader's dream of significant time off and rest a reality. This opportunity not only benefits them but also strengthens the capacity of their organizations' next-in-line leaders. Our celebration was intimate and heartfelt, adorned with roses and a beautiful rose-shaped cake. But what truly made the day special was the presence of past Clare Rose Sabbatical recipients, who joined us at each grantee's organization. Their warm welcome and spirit of giving back created a sense of community that underscored the unique essence of the Fieldstone Leadership Network SAN DIEGO. It was a poignant reminder of Peter Hawkins' words, "All leadership happens through relationship." I am thrilled to congratulate Nao Kabashima and the Karen Organization of San Diego, as well as Jessica Toth and the Solana Center, as they embark on their sabbatical journeys. I am genuinely excited to work with you both this year and witness the positive impact this experience will have on you and your teams. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Nicole Mione-Green, Deborah Martin, Kristianne Kurner, Nancy Laturno, John Malashock, Barbara Reuer, Catherine Corral, Torrie Dunlap, and Anne Vincent for their presence and support during our announcement. Your participation made the day even more special. The Clare Rose Sabbatical provides three months of paid time off for the Executive Director, funds for staff development and bonuses, and a program consultant, with a total value of $50,000. Over the past 11 years, we have had the privilege of awarding 32 sabbaticals worth $1.6 million to support our dedicated nonprofit leaders. Today, on National Certified Nonprofit Professional Day, I join in recognizing the expertise, commitment and impact of CNPs working throughout our country to address some of our biggest challenges and to make the communities where we live more hospitable and vibrant for all. I am grateful to Nonprofit Leadership Alliance for providing this certification program for those of us in the nonprofit sector and to University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences for providing the opportunity locally. Today, I had the privilege of presenting with Donald Stump at the Board Governance Symposium hosted by The Nonprofit Institute at USD. Our session, Sabbaticals as a Governance Strategy, examined sabbaticals as a cutting-edge and transformative board governance strategy. The presentation explored the multifaceted benefits of sabbaticals and addressed the common fears that often hinder board members from adopting it as a strategic initiative. The session included specific information on the Fieldstone Leadership Network’s Clare Rose Sabbatical program that is available to San Diego area nonprofits. Applications for the next cohort are due January 31, 2024. Applications are on the Fieldstone website.
