This posts reminds me of some quotes: "Don’t let your imagination be crushed by life as a whole," Marcus Aurelius wrote. Remember, he adds, everything is built action by action. As Zeno, the founder of Stoicism, put it, “Well-being is realized by small steps, but is truly no small thing.” One of the best pieces of advice from Seneca was actually pretty simple: “Each day, acquire something that will fortify you against poverty, against death, indeed against other misfortunes, as well.” One gain per day. That’s it.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. When you move one step toward God, he moves one thousand steps toward you. Need to start a journey and be persistent. Have patience with gratitude, daily.
Small actions... so simple and yet so difficult to get ourselves to do them consistently. As Jim Rohn said: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away. It's too easy, and if true why aren't more people healthy? Because it's easy NOT to do too. 😁 PS: Those were the times when apples were still healthy... Nowadays keep out! The poisoned apples are now real.
I believe it's the energy and time it takes to define and design the direction of those small steps that keeps us from moving. Random takes no effort up front. You may be constantly active; doesn't mean you are constantly achieving anything.
I think the key is that the small movements need a direction. Nothing wrong with dreaming big as long as we aren't expecting it overnight.
It shouldn't be about the outcome - it should be about the journey to get there.
James Clear I remember the 1% change story of the cycle race tournament that you've mentioned in the book. I always believed in precision that is 'improving at units'. In fact, my father always tell me to just stay 1 step ahead of people around me. Small actions have great results. Example? The Great Wall of China is build by bricks.
This is very true, we sometime (or most time) forget that one major defining moment was determined by the small improvements we underestimate.

2w"We put pressure on ourselves to make some earth-shattering improvement." We overestimate the power of - A single action - A single right choice - A single opportunity None of those change who you are. And who you are is actually the part that affects your outcomes in life. Life is always reflecting your emotional truth back to you. That's why you keep feeling the same way, being stuck in the same pattern, thinking the same thoughts over and over. Lasting change comes from changing how you feel about yourself. Practicing little habits that reflect that emotional truth back to yourself. Again and again. You create a state of being. Life has no choice but to reflect who you're being.
