That Is The Real Truth

LinkedIn success posts, I love them! From the individual, “I did this and achieved this!” posts to, “Our company did this amazing thing, and we did such wow!” Great! Congratulations. Now that the need for social approval and professional dopamine deprivation is out of the way, let us talk about reality. LinkedIn is undoubtedly an exceptional platform for networking, displaying one’s accomplishments, and forging connections with fellow professionals. However, it is imperative to recognize that it may not invariably constitute the ideal arena for nurturing one’s career aspirations or uncovering genuine motivation. Triumph springs from tribulation. Concealed beneath every story of triumph are a plethora of failures, lessons culled from mistakes, an assortment of trials and errors, and, yes, an element of luck. Regrettably, LinkedIn posts predominantly project an image of unadulterated success, often sidestepping the trials and failures encountered on the path to achievement. You will never see the vulnerability of individuals and companies behind those posts. Even the examples of vulnerabilities are tamed and pruned to look nice on a social media post. It is a celebratory narrative. While these accomplishments are undoubtedly praiseworthy, they are not about your career goals or success metrics. They are not part of your path but someone else’s journey. There is a risk of distorted perception here; the selective nature of these posts may cause you to lose sight of your journey. Your hurdles and setbacks may make you feel like you are on the wrong path or lack things others don’t. LinkedIn (or any social media) may not be the right place when seeking inspiration and fortitude. I always give the example of those 15-minute easy cooking shows as someone who is a fire risk in the kitchen: they say it takes 15 minutes, but they never talk about doing the groceries, earning money for the groceries, washing the produce, preparing the ingredients, washing the dishes after the food, buying the tools needed, taking care of the kids meanwhile trying to keep the cat away from the kitchen counter or the in-law calling to ask something trivial. Remember, it is never that simple, and do not feel defeated looking at all the “success” posts. It felt like LinkedIn just wasn't my platform. 💔 I spent hours sending emails to LinkedIn support, trying to figure out why I got restricted in the first place. It was frustrating, to say the least, but I realized one thing—this wasn't a sign to give up; it was a sign to keep going. 🕯I had a purpose, dreams, connections, and a vision. A single restriction wouldn't destroy those. The experiences that challenge us are the ones that build us up to become better at what we do. 🕯Fortunately, I managed to regain access to my account. But I felt disorganized, like I'd missed an important moment by not making my birthday post. However, I reminded myself that even the smallest steps can make a big difference. 💡One thing I'm good at is connecting and engaging with others on LinkedIn. It may seem like a small action, but it's a big step toward achieving your goals. Don't be discouraged by setbacks; start small and take one step at a time. 💡The path to success is often filled with unexpected twists, but what matters is your determination to keep moving forward. Abundance Mindset vs. Limited Mindset. LinkedIn Edition: There are two ways to interact on LinkedIn. 1️⃣❌ Limited Mindset. 👉 Only connect with potential clients, or other people who can help you. 👉 Don’t connect with others in your field of work. 👉 Don’t like posts by anyone who could take business from you. 👉 Only like/comment on posts of people you want business/attention from. When I first started out on LI, I acted this first way. But I soon realized it wasn’t worth it. It didn’t work well, it was too constant, and it made the whole process unpleasant. I figured out the way to do it better. 2️⃣✅ Abundace Mindset. 👉 Connect with all kinds of people. The more the merrier. 👉 Connect with people in your field. You never know what you may learn from them. Or how you might collaborate. 👉 Like posts, even ones from “competitors”. It doesn’t hurt, and it breeds goodwill. 👉 Engage with a variety of posts and people. You never what might come from it. Don’t reserve your engagement for direct business needs. WHAT I SHARED WITH THE NEWBIE A good friend sought my advice on creating a LinkedIn account, and I shared my honest thoughts with him: 1. LinkedIn is a professional space to build your network with peers and great personalities within or outside your profession. Your network is your net worth, as the saying goes. However, sending connection requests is not a guarantee that the receiver is willing to connect with you. Many are busy people with a lot on their plates, while others may not see the need to accept your request based on your profile. Don't be disappointed, but know that there are genuine people willing to mentor and connect with you. 2. Build an authentic profile for yourself. Update it whenever you make any progress in your career. Never falsify anything on your profile. People often review profiles, so honesty is crucial. 3. There's a syndrome of feeling pressure on LinkedIn, especially when seeing peers of your age achieving success. I strongly disagree with succumbing to this syndrome. We all have different paths in life, and others' success stories should inspire growth rather than feelings of inadequacy. Remember, the meaning you give to this determines how you treat everything. 4. Lastly, learn to market yourself. People need your services or expertise. Sharing your skills and talents is not bragging or boasting, it's showcasing what you bring to the table. It was brief but I believe it was worth sharing... #growthmindset #sharingisgrowing
