#aaos2024 grew my business…. For 2025/2026 The overwhelming amount of booths and exhibitors at AAOS can be daunting. As 1099 sales reps, we can lose focus on what really helps ours business and just go bananas on every product that we THINK will help our surgeons and our pocketbooks. But as we get back home and start wading through the mounds of brochures and business cards, we realize that not everything makes sense for our bag. Because when the tide settles, WE thought that product and that commission rate was awesome, but were we really thinking about our customers or just us?? A lot of industry pros will tell you to make a booth plan before you go, and try to stick to it. You will always find a few others that will peak your interest, but put your main focus on those products/companies that add the most value to your business for the future. BUT this year was different for me. I was extra focused on the distant future…. Like 2025/2026… Why would I waste time on 1-2 years from now when the present opportunities are everywhere around me?? I’ll tell you… I spent 90% of my time with Residents… I chose to give my extra time to a group of surgeons in training that I have cultivated relationships with for the past 3-4 years. They are curious, intrigued, focused, and extremely involved in technologies and devices that will benefit them and their patients in their future practice. They are the present and the future of this industry, and most reps don’t invest the time today because it doesn’t add value to their pockets NOW! I chose to add extra focus on relationships and growth for the future, not just today. Because when you get messages like this: “Thanks for everything this week. Appreciate all that you do for us man” You know that you’ve built a connection that is stronger than face value and is built to last. To all my LI and #orthosales community, do you spend enough time building for the future? And what would you tell the younger reps that have the opportunity to play the “long game”? With special thanks to our Alpha Test Site, Cromwell Hospital, London, the team Complex Spine London, and confirmed by the others, showed exceptional value even when looking at one small data point. Average time per surgery, one year before and one year following eXeX demonstrated 12.25 minutes per hour of surgery reduced. A little math and that adds 62 million surgeries extra a year world wide when extrapolated to all global surgeries. In a world plagued by problems with access to care, a backlog of surgery and delay in treatment, innovation is essential to solve these problems, and we look to IT 2.0 for healthcare to provide the answers.
