EurekAlert!: Professor Banach said: “Patients with acute coronary syndrome (#ACS), such as those who have already had a heart attack, face a much higher risk of further heart problems. Current #guidelines, including those on #prevention from the European Society of Cardiology (European Society of Cardiology), recommend a #stepwise approach, first offering a statin only. This study shows that if we act quickly and decisively to lower patients’ cholesterol with this combination of treatments, we can drastically reduce the risk of #death and save even 330,000 patients annually.” https://lnkd.in/dRZidemN

Today's #ISUOGEducation quiz comes from Prof. Simon Meagher who will be leading the 'ISUOG Fetal Cardiology Conference' this month. #loveultrasound Which of the following statements is false : (1) The findings are typical of tetralogy of Fallot (2) There is a right aortic arch (3) The findings suggest pulmonary atresia with VSD (4) The anomaly demonstrated is associated with 22q deletion in ~ 15% of cases (5) The thymus gland is demonstrated on the three vessel tracheal view suggesting the likelihood of 22q deletion is reduced There is still time to book your spot for online attendance. Business Consultant @ BioInsights, MBA, Health and Performance wearable expert, Operation Manager, Data Analyst, Sales and Marketing Manager, CSCS
I just wanted to remind you about the latest findings from JAMA Cardiology. It turns out that the decrease in deaths from heart failure (HF) from 1999 to 2012 has been completely reversed by increases from 2012 to 2021. This means that HF mortality rates now exceed those of 1999. This presents an opportunity to rethink wearables and training. Monitoring what truly matters is crucial; it's not just about gamification. #Wearables #Remotemonitoring
Most viewed in the last 7 days from JAMA Cardiology: Declines in HF-related mortality from 1999 to 2012 have been entirely undone by reversals from 2012 to 2021, meaning that contemporary HF mortality rates are higher than in 1999. https://ja.ma/4bknms5

Why this matters…….??? This study underscores the significance of elevated lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) in increasing cardiovascular risk, independent of baseline high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels. Lp(a) is a lipoprotein particle composed of a cholesterol-rich outer shell and a unique protein called apolipoprotein(a). It’s known to be a putative causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). 🫀⚠️ The findings, drawn from diverse cohorts including both primary and secondary prevention populations, reveal a consistent association between higher Lp(a) levels and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), myocardial infarction (MI), and peripheral artery disease (PAD), regardless of hs-CRP status. 💡 This highlights the importance of considering Lp(a) as a standalone risk factor in assessing cardiovascular risk and emphasizes the need for targeted interventions to mitigate its impact. 🎯 Understanding the independent role of Lp(a) in cardiovascular risk stratification could inform more precise preventive strategies and treatment approaches in clinical practice. #CardiovascularHealth #LipoproteinA #PrecisionMedicine

Our collaborative study across Mass General Brigham led by Aeron Small and Nicholas Marston, MD, MPH shows that, in both primary and secondary prevention, Lp(a) and hsCRP are independent features associated with incident CVD (in contrast to smaller earlier reports). https://lnkd.in/e599JyJ7 JAMA Cardiology Massachusetts General Hospital Brigham and Women's Hospital
