A big reason we founded Quiller — you can’t trust Big Tech to build tools for political campaigns & advocacy organizations. Case in point: Meta just banned political advertisers from using its generative AI tools. Yes, it’s going to make it harder for liars & right-wing trolls to spread disinformation but it’s also going to make it harder for organizers to advocate for a better future. These companies care more about their bottom line & their PR than they do about taking actions to protect our democracy. That’s why they’ve generally done very little to remove bad faith actors — foreign governments, right-wing trolls, etc… — from using their platforms. Instead they lump us all together, de-emphasize legitimate political content in people’s feeds & outright ban us from using the tech they build. So… We need to build our own solutions. We need to take the future in our own hands. We need to use emerging tech to save our democracy. We need to leverage generative AI tools to win more elections. We need to turn on the light, take some risks, & secure our country’s future. I’m excited about the great work our team is doing, & I’m equally excited to see what other tools people build in the coming months & years. Let’s use this as the generational opportunity it is — to change the way we’re doing things for the better.
