I’m a 19-year-old student and just did $100,000 in revenue in 75 days with my residential cleaning company. Here’s my story 👇
In the summers, I run Shaidle Cleaning, a BBQ cleaning company I started in 2020 to fund my university tuition. Until this summer, I managed everything solo, from door-knocking to cleaning.
In August 2023, I partnered with my best friend Aran Giffen, who boosted our digital presence by building our website, designing our brand, and securing interviews with The Hamilton Spectator and Global News.
While finishing my BBQs for the season, I contemplated Shaidle Cleaning's future: continue solo or expand the team? As Aran and I returned to The University of British Columbia for our sophomore year, we decided to go all-in!
From September 2023 to April 2024, we spent countless hours preparing for major expansion, guided by our fantastic business mentors:
For me, Brendan Q. was the man! Through his experience growing his companies Insight Pest Solutions Canada and Vantage Marketing Canada, he helped with our contract writing, payroll systems, business growth plan and so much more.
For Aran, Jeff Kozak was a massive help, his experience in the BBQ Industry with Napoleon and W.C. Bradley Co. helping us secure partnerships with Buckenham Fireplaces & Grills Inc. and others.
The business officially incorporated and became Shaidle Cleaning Ltd. on February 2nd, 2024! We set-up our CRM (shoutout Jobber), invested in SEO (thanks Tim Hodges), and developed our systems.
In May 2024, we trained our first technicians—fellow Appleby College alum and friends Richard Styka, Hiro Boudreau, and Jack Churchill. Dylan Malhotra secured partnerships with Not Just Steaks and James Hooykaas Insurance. In this first month, word of mouth helped grow our team from 7 to 18 people.
Fast forward 75 days, we have now generated over $100,000 in revenue! This would not be possible without our incredibly talented, hardworking, and dedicated team. Upon reflection of this journey, here are the 3 most important lessons learned so far:
1) Surround yourself with a positive, like-minded circle. By fostering a respectful and growth-oriented environment, we've created a flexible, motivating, and rewarding workplace.
2) Brand is crucial. Our clients choose us not just for BBQ cleaning but because they believe in our mission—a team of students making strides in a new industry to fund our education.
3) You are capable of WAY more than you think. (Shoutout Brendan Q. and Aran Giffen for helping me realize this). Take your dream and double it. Double it again and now shoot for that. Speak things into existence, hold yourself accountable to them, and then go and work for them. Work harder than you ever have and those dreams will come true.
