Every journey is an experience that takes something away from you, gives you something. This is a business journey for me and Audioboost. Here, at the #GlobalStartupProgram by Italian Trade Agency - Los Angeles Office the first phase has gone and is rapidly moving towards the crux of the matter: thanks to Plug and Play Tech Center I found different points of views, insights for products, pitch experiences, trying to go beyond my own mentality boundaries and cultural. In any case this is an opportunity to win a new level of the game you play, challenging my mentality, overstep some ideas. 🗽 🇺🇸 When we first started Sifted's American series earlier this year, I immediately thought about Booksy💅 Conquering the US market has been a bumpy ride for this Poland-born beauty booking app — it's raised a total of $162m, but also faced the catastrophe of Covid (devastating for the beauty industry) and laid off almost 40% of its staff last year. But Booksy's American dream isn’t over yet. Today, the US makes up almost half of its global business. It has more users in America than all of its competitors put together. Recently it's got a new investor, Inovia Capital, which is deeply rooted in the US ecosystem — one of its partners is Patrick Pichette, Google’s ex-chief financial officer.  And, most importantly, Booksy is now profitable — and it keeps growing. https://lnkd.in/dzGi96sA

On July 17th, I started at BOX ID Systems GmbH and was very curious what awaits me at my new workplace. Now almost a month later, I can say I had a great start at the new company. Many things are different in a growing Start-Up compared to a 2,800 employee company. Size: The first thing I noticed was the size of the company. I almost got to know everyone face-to-face in the first couple of days and got a warm welcome. Communication and progress are much faster, due to the fewer people to get aligned before actually starting a project. Issues are talked about directly in small rounds and they can therefore be resolved quick. Partners: Having strong and innovative partners is essential for a Start-Up. This does apply to bigger companies as well, but I experienced a different kind of communication with partners at a Start-Up. The communication is open and on one level, that means there is no imbalance in one company being or feeling superior to the other. This makes everyone feel more comfortable to also talk about things that won't work or are not part of the solution. Structure: One of the biggest advantages in established companies are the already existing structure and processes. Often this is not the case in a Start-Up, those things need to be set up and discussed, until they are finally integrated. Being a part of this process feels great for me and I'm looking forward to seeing the company develop and grow.

"Goosebumps, ever wondered what makes them?" So started the brand narrative I recently created for d&b audiotechnik, one of the world's leading makers of speaker systems (Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Stadium, the Taylor Swift tour... it's a very long list). It's a simple question inspired by an off-hand story I heard about why the founders started out in the early 80s. I'm mentioning it because, in my experience, the reason a business started is the reason it still deserves to exist today. The human condition doesn't really change very quickly (find Bill Bernbach's 'unchanging man' quote). What does change is context. Cultural context is the glue that binds your product and your audience together. Many businesses just think about product and customer which is hard to make interesting. Triangulating with context brings it all to life, it clarifies your place in the world and people's lives. So, as a business, you need to figure out how the question you asked yourself when you started is relevant today. And I think that applies whether you're a bootstrapped start-up or a 43-year old mega-multi-million turnover organisation like d&b group. Turns out that goosebumps are a contortion of our 'fight of flight' response. Triggered by unexpected change and the more immersed in the moment we are, the more we feel them. Which is handy, because this brief was to communicate that d&b group are changing and creating more immersive experiences - so goosebumps all round then. I have another very unique and rather ambitious idea. What does it look like in your personal opinion and from your point of view? If we could create and define this topic and concept in the form of a type of game and a science fiction or strategic movie at the beginning. In order to collect, attract, and obtain an initial or an elementary budget and capital or investment required for ourselves to launch and develop this innovative idea and emerging concept for our new start-up company.
