The Hear Clinic & Clearwax - Director, Consultant Audiologist, HCPC Registered Hearing Aid Audiologist & Cerumenologist
**OPEN REQUEST** I believe it is now well-established that many high-street hearing centres (and also some independents I may add) are training unqualified lay people (when it comes to ears) both from non-clinical and clinical backgrounds to perform #earwaxremoval. In doing so, they are seriously devaluing and not fully appreciating the procedural and diagnostics risks associated with #earwaxremoval. I can therefore only imagine the decision-makers at these entities either do not perform ear wax removal themselves, or are light years better and more knowledgeable about ear wax removal than all of the ENT Specialists who I have either spoken to on this matter, or that have liked and/or commented on my various posts. I am just left speechless as to how the most invasive procedure I perform as a qualified Audiologist has been made a mockery of by the abovementioned. However, I now realise the problem may just be that I am not very good or confident myself in performing #earwaxremoval. Therefore, I send an open request to the high-street hearing companies who are involved in the above practices (or indeed any independent companies), whether I could shadow one of their experts to learn more and to see whether I’ve got this all terribly wrong. I realise this may come across as bit of a strange request, considering I’ve heard through the grapevine some of you advise your experts to watch my videos as part of their training.

Wednesdays Question of the Week--Should audiologists have a fundamentals of audiology coding and billing class requirement before they receive their degree? I get this question a lot as to why they do not have a semester or short term class on this topic and am often asked to give training on this very thing. What are your thoughts on this question?

Leading the USA and Canada's top Pharmacy and Audiology recruitment experts, connecting the best talent with excellent practices and businesses across North America
One question I get asked on almost any call with Audiology practices is "how many Audiologists should I expect to see applications from in the current market?". I really wish there was a number I could give anybody that asks me that, but in today's audiology employment market there just isn't. At last count there are 18,500 audiologists in the USA. 18,500 audiologists to cover a nation 3.79 million sq miles in size, with a population of 331 million people. That's a rough average of 17,891 people per audiologist. Then take into account the uneven distribution across the USA of that 18,500 audiologists. When you need and Audiologist for your practice, hospital or clinic, it's going to be hard to find one! In this market, simply posting an advert and waiting for applications won't cut it. One practice I spoke with this week has been trying to find an audiologist in Philadelphia for 1.5 years, with no joy. Leverage your connections and your networks to be proactive and find what you need! Most Audiologists aren't proactively looking to move on right now, but could be interested when approached with an attractive opportunity. The same goes for Audiologists considering moving on, don't just look for adverts of practices hiring audiologists! Talk to those in the know around you - other Audiologists and of course, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man... I mean recruiter.. #AudiologyUSA #HiringTips #USACareers #AudiologyJobs
