Too often in government, we react to problems and get overwhelmed by them rather than solving them. It’s a counterproductive loop. I’m running for #SanJose #CityCouncil to help our city break out of this cycle using a different approach I call “Upstream Public Policy.” It's about proactively addressing issues before they turn into crises that cost the government more money and all of us more hardship. CHICAGO — Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced $25 million in available grant funding through the Back to Business (B2B) NewBiz program. Following state recovery programming for businesses totaling $1.5 billion, the latest American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)-funded opportunity is designed to provide additional support for businesses in hard-hit sectors who launched during the pandemic. Businesses that launched in 2020 or 2021 and remain in operation have faced significant impacts during the pandemic, but they have not been eligible for other federal or state relief programming since they were not operational prior to the pandemic. To provide hands-on support and raise awareness about the program, the State has mobilized a network of nearly 100 community navigators across Illinois. Thanks to the CHATTANOOGAN.COM for helping spread the word about the incredible return on investment, not to mention the lives changed, through the Chattanooga Eviction Prevention Initiative. A recent report conducted by Stout Risius Ross, LLC. and funded by the Maclellan Foundation indicates the general public could see economic benefits of $4.84 for every dollar spent on eviction prevention. According to the report: “With an annual investment of approximately $640,000 in an eviction access to counsel program, Chattanooga and Hamilton County may recognize economic benefits of at least an estimated $3.1 million. For every dollar the city or county invests in providing free representation to eligible tenants through an eviction access to counsel program, the city or county may reduce social safety net responses to disruptive displacement or realize economic benefits of at least $4.84.” We encourage you to read the entire release. A new report by cross-party think tank Demos and supported by Grosvenor Hart Homes is published today, highlighting the economic and social impact of failing to join up public services for vulnerable children, young people, and families. Too often the people who most need support in areas such as housing, health, and employment are let down due to the siloed nature of public service delivery, with the knock-on cost of this reaching up to £4.3 billion of public money spent on additional services trying to manage issues rather than prevent them. We are very proud to support this report, being launched in the House of Commons today, with the ambition to bring attention to the issues and stimulate policy innovation that can begin to shift focus from firefighting to prevention. Voters First in Davis County. Local engagement is paramount to local governance. With the recent closure of the Davis County Clipper newspaper, community news and information has been limited. Local engagement is more important now than ever. Davis County is at a critical fork in the road and this election matters more than ever. I have taken the initiative to launch DavisUtahWeekly.com, an effort aimed at providing concise 1-2 minute recaps of the Davis County Commission meetings. I believe that keeping the VOTER informed and engaged is crucial for Davis County's well-being and growth. Taxes and Fiscal Responsibility must always put Voters First. Property values have doubled, and with it brought steep tax increases, I advocate for lower taxes and fiscal responsibility. High-density Housing is encroaching into our neighborhoods. I believe in preserving the character and integrity of our residential areas. These megastructures are not owned and operated by local Utah businesses. Additionally, I oppose the establishment of ill-conceived homeless shelters that will attract homelessness to our doorstep. We must address homelessness with effective solutions that do not jeopardize the safety and well-being of our neighborhoods. Davis County stands at a fork in the road, and now more than ever, our community needs representatives who prioritize the voices and concerns of its Voters. Charity begins at home, I can not believe that Oakland California has been stripped of its Sports Teams which is a major revenue source. This appears to be by design, we can do something! and not stand idly by while families suffer, and funding for the municipalities such as The Police Department, Fire Department, and City Services are threatened. Why is the name of Oakland Airport being changed to include another City? Oakland is a beautiful City blessed with many natural resources and a rich culture that can stand on its own. So please don't be fooled into looking at only what is lacking, our voices should be demanding resources be brought back to the City. A new report shows that 77% of employers worldwide are finding it difficult to fill positions for Tech workers. Therefore, it should be a strong push to bring to Oakland, large corporations, and financial institutions, who pledge training. Anchor stores with industries in Aerospace, Technology, and manufacturing. Make the city attractive to Sports teams there are more than just one. So please consider supporting this cause which gives Oakland residents a choice in the future. Every day, powerful people make policy decisions that deeply impact our lives. Utility companies hike up our rates despite their own massive profits, cities invest in building stadiums for tourists instead of desperately needed affordable housing, our loved ones are in crisis as mental health providers shutter their doors. These problems are big, and we often feel powerless to solve them. Alone, it is easy for those in power to ignore our cries for justice. Alone, none of us stand a chance of getting to that decision-making table and forcing action to address our community’s needs. But together, we are powerful. DART affiliates have organized and won over $450 million for affordable housing; ensured that 60,000 fewer children were arrested in the state of Florida; created a break in the school-to-prison pipeline for more than 650 schools; and so, so much more.
