I had a vision. Not just for me but for 10,000 young people. I saw a community of visionaries who work together with deep optimism and hope, upholding and lifting one another. A community which is a safe haven for rebels and the stubborn—those who choose to go against the grain. Those who dare to stand out to make a difference. Those who lose the support of old friends just to painstakingly grow out of their cocoons and soar like eagles. I saw people who are ready to take over the world in their respective fields. I saw people who are willing to pay the price to lead. People who want to become something out of nothing. The Team. The Team. The Team!!!!! 1 year ago, I knew virtually nothing about the day-to-day operations of a mental health company. Sure, I knew enough to found/fund the business and add value as a board member...but actually *running the show* in Healthcare is new for me! As I come up on one year since I took on the CEO position for Mindfully Behavioral Health, it is clear to me that this transition was primarily possible because of the people in this photo: our senior leadership team. The job of most CEOs is not to be an expert on specific roles within the company. It is to empower leaders to operate each function with autonomy, good judgement, a bias to action, integrity, and selflessness. As far as teams go...This group right here is the best team I have ever worked with. Bar none. They have large health systems experience. Healthcare M&A experience. Over 30 years at P&G across the board! Clinical on-the-ground knowledge. Entrepreneurial side hustles that inform their work with us every day. And so much more diversity of thought and depth of knowledge that we pull from every single day. Learning new industries is my favorite sport. Started my career in EdTech. Then built & patented tools in FinTech. Aaand now we're in the world of Healthcare. All different sectors. Different financial models. Completely different target demographics, expectations, and leadership styles required. Being able to wear these different hats and drive companies to meet their potential is a dream for any entrepreneur. But it is completely impossible without a team that has your back. Oh. I need my network to help me facilitate change. I want to start a movement that is shared far and wide . Private, public, non for profit, corporate, large, medium and small businesses. I want you to share the message that your business has like the signage below . We say No More and make a stand for our women. Men need to lead this movement. Men, you, me, father, uncle, brother, son, nephew, mate. Leaders in business. This was in the toilets at Crown Resorts. When someone is threaten or feels unsafe in venues, offices, restaurants etc the toilets are a safe space. The notice is clear and specific on actions they can take to get help and be protected and be moved to safety. It explains the teams specifically trained to assist. It is simple but powerful. Well done Crown Resorts leading the way. What is your workplace or business doing to protect your staff affected by Domestic Voilence ? Do they have a safe space?,do you have trained people to deal with the situation or provide advice and counsel? Have you discussed this as a leadership team?,do you have a designated policy around Domestic Voilence for your workplace? If you don’t have one be the change and advocate for one. Start the process. Share what your workplace,sporting club,association etc is doing, repost and write your own post and tag me on the work you are doing the conversations you are having, a photo, video message we say no more, signage, let’s create the change. Have the conversations with your family, mates, work colleagues, it all begins with us. Conversation by Conversation. 43 women have been murdered as of writing another 11 women since my last post a month ago. 43 mothers, daughters, sisters,nieces, grandmothers, cousins, friends, a work colleague, a neighbour. If you have scrolled your finger past previously and thought not my fight, to hard, not good for my personal brand, not a LinkedIn post as it’s a business network. Look the women you love in the eye and tell them why you stay silent. Ask them how the 43 women murdered affects them, ask them have they been subjected to a threat, a situation where they felt unsafe in the presence of men. Have the courage to have the conversation. Walk in their shoes for a day. Listen to their stories. Because to stay silent is to be part of the problem. But also, if you tell your brain to accomplish something in six months, you will also most likely be able to do that as well. I see this as good news. 💥 This means that you can still achieve the goals that you have set out to achieve at the beginning of this year. So how can you do this this year? 1️⃣ Recommit! Push the reset button get clear on your vision again and get refocused. 2️⃣ Create an updated plan and the strategy for how you are going to do that. 3️⃣ Surround yourself with people who are just as dedicated on finishing the year strong, and in the process becoming more effective and impactful leader. The Future Last night I was talking with some of my co-workers and found myself passionately talking about the future of our company. I was talking about the long term plans that have been used for other big companies and the fact that in order to make big changes, when talking about positive change in this case, there has to be an equal amount of responsibility. I’m currently listening to Simon Sinek’s book “Start With Why” and I pulled some great quotes that inspired me to continue on and keep the passion alive. These are great quoytes that deserve deep reflection, self awareness and an ability to change. As time goes on the passion wanes and the employees see less of the positives and more of the negatives. In my discussion last night, I was talking about how in the movie/content creation space there’s a rule of show don’t tell. Meaning that moment people want to see change rather than being told about it. As I write this short article I’m wondering why there isn’t more change but at the same time hesitant to be impatient because I know meaningful change takes time. “Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them” “Camaraderie and trust brings success” “If the people aren’t looking out for the community, then the benefits of the community are owed” “Few companies culture have a culture that produces great people as a rule and not an exception"
