As the Summer 2023 Interns finish up their internship, they report a final message: Eleven weeks at Evermay Wealth Management have come to a close, and it’s been an insightful journey! Our internship has been a whirlwind of growth, learning, and hands-on experience in the world of finance. Diving into CRM reconciliation, we've learned the balance between accuracy and efficiency. The intricate process has sharpened our analytical thinking, use of Excel, and attention to detail, lessons we'll carry with us throughout our careers. Compliance research became a significant aspect of our learning curve. Navigating through the regulations, rules, and laws was challenging, yet rewarding. We’ve worked on investment research and reviewed regulatory filings.  Our work on 529 and RMD reviews has allowed us to delve into the specialized area of education and retirement savings plans. Understanding the nuances of helping families strategize for their future has been gratifying and personally informative. The in-house stock trading competition was a highlight of our time at Evermay. It wasn't just about predicting market trends; it was a tactical challenge that required careful planning, analysis, and the courage to make decisive moves. Trading with fellow interns brought a collaborative spirit to our competitive edge and served as an exciting, real-world extension of our financial studies. A heartfelt thank you to the Evermay team for this remarkable opportunity. The knowledge we've gained, the friendships we've forged, and the professional skills we've honed have made this an unforgettable experience. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to complete an internship this summer at New Directions in the finance department. Are you going to college for Accounting? We are looking for you! 📣 “The Intern Experience” is a highlight of some interns we’ve had the pleasure of working with us here at JHM. We want to share a few words of experience from some of them and give you all some insight into what we strive to maintain and build upon at our firm. We asked Erika Pratt some questions- take a look! ▶ 1. What factored into your decision to choose to intern with JHM? "I was initially impressed by their website! Website aside, the interview process was professional and personable, and JHM's work environment seemed to be a good fit for me." ▶ 2. What were your primary responsibilities during your internship? "As a tax intern, I was mainly involved in the sorting and preparation of partnership and individual returns, as well as other administrative projects." ▶ 3. Can you describe a specific project or task you worked on that had an impact on JHM? "During the first few weeks of my internship, I was given a group of partnerships that I was able to complete ahead of schedule. This not only increased my own confidence, but, hopefully, increased the firm's confidence in me as well." ▶ 4. What skills or knowledge did you gain or enhance during your internship? "This internship definitely strengthened my personal and time management skills. Working independently allowed me to prioritize my returns and create my own schedule." ▶ 5. What was your favorite part about being an intern at JHM? "My favorite part was the people I got to work around and know! Everyone at JHM was so friendly and willing to help no matter how small the question or task." Hey, my name is Hannah Autry and I would like to introduce myself. 👋 I’m currently 20 and a junior at Spartanburg Methodist College. I’m studying Accounting. My Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting degree is anticipated to be completed in May of 2025. I have begun my searching for accounting and finance internship opportunities to intern this coming summer. Fun Facts: ✅ I love organization probably a little too much ✅ I am very passionate about the work I complete ✅ I find myself drawn to learning new things ✅ I love to embark on new adventures and I love to explore new experiences and ideas Why Accounting? Simply put, accounting is awesome! I knew when I took my first accounting class in high school that I would always have a love for accounting. I love to challenge my brain and learn, which is exactly why accounting is perfect. Accounting is more than a person sitting in a cubicle, typing numbers into excel. Accountants are always having to analyze data. Accounting to me is an avenue of making sense of a bunch of numbers. Accountants work hard to ensure a businesses runs smoothly. They help relay financial information to financial information users.
