In my Bachelor's course Computer Networks, two students showed how modular the OSI reference model is. IP data can even be transferred via a low speed link layer with bongo drums. It turns out that bongo drums are not the best sound instruments for this demonstrator. As can be seen from the real-time Fourier Transformation in the video, the two frequencies for the symbols 0 and 1 are not constant, relatively close to each other and the tones themselves are not of high spectral purity. During the day at Innovation Campus Lemgo it's all about IT and automation. And sometimes we have a party afterwards. On Open Factory Day yesterday at our SmartFactoryOWL, Lemgo, located at the Innovation Campus Lemgo, I had the privilege of guiding our Master IT students through an immersive experience. Our tour explored how cutting-edge #AI, #IoT and #Automation technologies are revolutionizing our daily lives. We delved into the advanced setups of the Smart Factory and the very diverse showcases within the #Fraunhofer Future City Solutions showroom. The students witnessed firsthand how these technologies enhance efficiency, drive sustainability, and pave the way for future advancements. This event shows the power of technology in shaping a better tomorrow. It was an inspiring opportunity for our students to see the practical applications of their studies and to envision their future contributions to the field. In our recent paper we investigate the jamming attack in the physical broadcast channel (PBCH) of the fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) that conveys critical information of the cell called master information block (MIB). Since smart attack on PBCH is simply possible using the information of synchronization signal block (SSB) that is unencrypted during the initial access, this channel is one of the most effective choices from a jammer’s point of view. In this study, we propose a hypothesis test to detect the presence of a jamming attack in the PBCH block and we estimate the principal direction of the attacked PBCH demodulation reference signal (PBCH DMRS) that significantly deviates under that attack. Simulation results evaluate the proposed method in various aspects and prove its superiority over the recent competing methods.
