The data-insight-action process occurs when people or systems use data to develop insights that inform action, which generates value. All improving initiatives focus on one step of the process—but each step carries a different level of risk to creating value. This recording is an excerpt from the book Data Is Everybody's Business: The Fundamentals of Data Monetization by Barb Wixom, Cynthia Beath, and Leslie Owens. The book, from The MIT Press, will be released on Sept. 26, 2023. The growth of data science is frenetic, ubiquitous, unstoppable. Companies turn to artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and hyperscale data centers to control the floodgates of consumer data. But who controls those? “Our partners in the corporate world tell us they are desperate to find managers who are highly proficient in business administration and team leading—but who also understand algorithms and are able to speak with data analysis and artificial intelligence experts at their level,” reports Professor Arne Karsten Strauss, the Academic Director of the new Master in Business Analytics at WHU. As organizations grapple to recruit competent talent for their data needs, the generation of tomorrow holds the key to their futures by not only being able to learn about state-of-the-art analytics methods, but more importantly, how to bridge the gap between business strategy and analytics. How can WHU get you there? Learn more at: https://t.ly/9Y59o #myWHU

Here's the simple truth about measurement: unless it's regular, it's academia. Think about it: 1. Every month you move away from measurement degrades relevance 2. That means the insight has a probability of getting worse each month 3. In turn that degrades the probability of data driving a good decision One thing that is clear to us is trying to focus on keeping things up to date is key, especially in very fast moving categories. In economic headwinds, the brands that are winning are measuring often, regularly and using that to drive and defend high-quality decision making. If you're not regularly making good decisions in this economy... you'll very quickly not be making decisions at all.

I recently obtained a certification in Business Analytics for Leaders from UC Berkeley Executive Education. Throughout the program, we delved into diverse use cases and frameworks, benefiting from insightful presentations by guest speakers from esteemed organizations like Deutsch LA, Square, Uber, and Bank of the West. The cohort and instructors were exceptional, and the hands-on experience with various datasets, employing techniques such as Supervised, Unsupervised, and Reinforcement learning, alongside a solid foundation in statistics and even some linear algebra, was truly enriching. I'm eager to apply the knowledge gained in future endeavors. Here's to continual growth and progress! #businessanalytics #ucberkeley #lifelonglearning
