Embarking on this year, I had no grand plan, a direction less journey that soon found purpose through an unexpected turn. Enactus entered my life, and suddenly, everything clicked. A sense of direction blossomed, accompanied by an overwhelming happiness that endures even now. In under a year, I've witnessed profound personal growth, a transformation that goes beyond the surface. A mere extracurricular pursuit transformed into the compass I desperately needed, steering my life toward a newfound direction. It begs the question: How can an unexpected twist bring so much joy and clarity? Before Enactus, admitting my lack of knowledge on self-improvement felt embarrassing. Online guides and rules proved futile, leading to discouragement and inevitable surrender. Yet, this year marked a pivotal shift. The concept of growth and development became more than a buzzword; it became my compass. Discovering my intrinsic motivation fueled my desire for a better self. This journey hasn't just been about acquiring knowledge; it's been a lesson in bravery and confidence. Enactus provided the platform to step into the unknown, face challenges head-on, and emerge not just unscathed but stronger. It's the resilience cultivated in the face of uncertainties that defines this transformative experience. Enactus, with its mission of entrepreneurial action for social change, became more than an extracurricular activity. It became a catalyst for my evolution and a source of purpose. 3 years 1 team and lifetime full of memories !! As graduation looms, I’ve been thinking a lot about what made my college experience so special. Hands down, it’s been my journey with Enactus BRAC . From a clueless first-year member to Marketing and Finance Head, and finally Joint Secretary, these 3 years have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Joining Enactus was the best decision I stumbled upon. Initially, I thought social entrepreneurship was just a fancy term, but boy, I was wrong! It turned out to be a life-changing experience. Before college, I was the type who’d rather cross the street than approach new opportunities (or people). But Enactus showed me that most of the time, the hurdles we imagine are bigger than reality. Through Enactus, I learned that approaching challenges head-on isn’t as terrifying as it seems. Whether it was managing projects, collaborating with team members, or brainstorming ideas that seemed impossible at 3 AM, I found myself growing in ways I never expected. I even developed a weird fondness for Excel sheets and turning every conversation into a brainstorming session. Who knew? The best part? The people. I met some of the most incredible folks – my teammates, mentors, and even those we aimed to help. These connections made every sleepless night and frantic deadline worth it. We laughed, we stressed, we conquered, and we learned. And somewhere along the way, I realized that Enactus wasn’t just an organization – it was a family. A massive shoutout to my amazing team – you guys are the real MVPs! Your dedication, support, and the occasional fun to lighten the mood made this journey unforgettable. The late-night debates and the sheer joy of achieving our goals together – these are memories I’ll cherish forever. With the end of a best thing ever, I carry with me the lessons and experiences that Enactus gifted me. "The way you do anything at all is the way you'll do everything". Lately, I've become very conscious about everything, no matter how little. I pay more attention to everything, making sure I get the full details of what they entail. To thrive in ENACTUS ABU and even in the world at large, one needs to be smart, alert, creative, a go-getter, innovative and resilient. Incorporating these skills into the things you do will definitely lead to excellent results and that's what ENACTUS trains individuals to do. I used to be an introvert, too shy to communicate. But being in ENACTUS has improved my communications and networking skills. I can now boldly walk up to a total stranger and have a conversation with him/her. I've also had the opportunity to speak in front of people, improving my public speaking and presentation skills. I've also learned the importance of time and effective time management. One thing that all humans have in common is time. What makes the difference is in the way we leverage it for our advantage. Being a member of ENACTUS and engaging in ENACTUS activities had improved my time management skills. I find that I spend time doing more productive things these days. I'm glad to say that I've learned all these and more just in the space of two months being an ENACTUS member. This surely proves that the kind of company you keep determines who you become. I've been challenged and inspired to get out of my comfort zone and do something for myself and my world. Taking the First Step: My Reluctance and Growth A few years ago I created a LinkedIn account but never truly engaged with the platform. I was hesitant to put myself out there and share my professional journey. The same reluctance held me back from joining Enactus at Ahmadu Bello University last year - I just wasn't sure it was worth the effort, I didn't think I had much to offer. Looking back, I realise how that inaction was holding me back. I was missing out on opportunities to grow my network, improve my skills, and learn from inspiring people in my field. It wasn't until this year that I finally took the leap and joined Enactus, and I'm so glad I did. The Enactus experience has been truly inspiring and life-changing. Being part of this community of students has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best of ways. I've had the chance to collaborate on impactful social entrepreneurship projects, build invaluable leadership skills, and connect with mentors who are experts in my industry. The personal growth I've experienced is immense. The key lesson I've learned is that taking that first step, even when it feels uncomfortable, is so worth it. Putting yourself out there - whether on LinkedIn or in other areas of your life - opens the door to incredible opportunities for learning, development, and achievement. As Mark Zuckerberg said, "The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a world thats changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks." My visit to Temasek Polytechnic yesterday morning for Partners in Education was informative. The taglines I keep hearing "Creating Tomorrow", "Build Today for Tomorrow" "inspiring the students to be mover and shakers of tomorrow", reflects the institution's unwavering commitment to preparing students for future success especially in the new digital economy and sustainable world. In my work of advisory and design, it is term as future proofing for tomorrow. Making tomorrow happen requires courage and empowerment. Courage to act and the ability to make it happen. Similarly, the current generation, particularly those in positions of leadership, must look ahead and make decisions based on the construction of tomorrow rather than today.
