We dropped a client because their only goal for AI strategy was to cut as many people as possible. Their target was a 50% reduction in headcount over 3 years. I have been laid off to make a quarterly earnings report look better. If that’s leadership’s vision for AI, my services, classes, and everything else aren’t a good fit. Our sales decks have been updated to state our thesis of AI strategy clearly: Data and AI are new inputs for growth. Business optimization and cost-cutting support growth without increasing headcount and scaling faster to take advantage of new opportunities. The best approach to managing significant transformation and capability shifts is to train and reskill people into new roles rather than implementing layoffs and external hiring cycles. With that approach, one client saved $23M over 5 years, so we’re not being altruistic. It’s impossible to eliminate layoffs, but growth will create plenty of work for more efficient workers. We have a backlog of clients, so this is an easier decision for my company. I’m not judging any founder who does what’s necessary to keep their people employed and the doors open. Everyone knows which firm our former client will bring in to replace us, and layoff cycles will begin before the end of the year. I also know where this approach to AI strategy ends. The company will surpass its 50% target and reach 100% within 5 years. Any business that doesn’t use data and AI as new growth inputs will not be in business much longer. #Data #AI #AIStrategy #GenerativeAI

An alternate strategy is to develop ways for AI to improve the output out of all the employees we currently have. If we can make everyone more productive and free up their time for creative thinking, and research and development, we can put the regularly scheduled tasks to be assigned to the AI.

Is it time for you to hire a CAIO? With all the talk and hoopla around AI, I've noticed few companies making changes at the ground level. Like with every other change management project, change needs to be pushed top down and for this, a CAIO(Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer) role needs to be created within your organisation immediately. The CAIO will be pivotal in charting the future course of the business. This is esp critical given that AI will pervade every aspect from hiring to manufacturing and even marketing!. The companies that have created this position have been paying top dollar to these individuals!. Is it time to ditch those CEO dreams in favour of a CAIO? Just to give you all another perspective on how the workplace is changing; "Green Collar" jobs are here and given the governments aggressive stance on pushing green energy, specialists from this segment are massively in demand as well!. AI or Windmills(or both??!) Your call!.
