Public spaces are the heartbeat of cities, surpassing even the significance of buildings themselves. Embracing the concept of placemaking, we strive to craft welcoming, secure, and delightful streets and open areas accessible to all. Understanding that people's perception of a city is shaped by their interaction with its public spaces, we prioritize their comfort, safety, attractiveness, and vibrancy. Through this approach, we cultivate a deeper sense of community and belonging for all citizens. CSML has transformed Karippalam Ground in Division 4, redirecting the energy of the younger generation from mere existence to vibrant living. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐄 𝐭𝐨 𝐄 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 Tactical urbanism is great. But how do you create small and quick solutions to fix the street? Where do you start? Our Founder & Managing Trustee, Shreya Gadepalli, assisted the ever-so-eager Guwahati team last week. Here are some simple yet clear steps: 1: Exploration: The team stepped out of the office and took to the streets to explore the current street design at Ganeshguri Junction. 2. Experience: Participants simulated an experience of “walking with a baby” by carrying a rice sack turn by turn. Their goal was to understand: How hard or easy is it? . Another experience was also to navigate the streets in a wheelchair. It was obviously a hard one but got done with a little push! 3. Empathy: The team returned to the office to discuss their experience and accept the overall challenges. Empathy became an important element because now they had clear benchmarks to achieve before suggesting a solution. In the end, the idea of tactical urbanism is not to dig up everything and build everything from scratch. It is to use pots, paints, and other cheaper ways to prototype a solution. What did the team do next? WATCH THIS SPACE! . . . . The "Redevelopment of Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple Access Corridor" is a significant undertaking in Guwahati, Assam, aligning with the contemporary ideology of the Indian Government aimed at revitalizing sacred sites to foster tourism growth. This thesis project explores the strategic redevelopment of the access corridor leading to the revered Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple, situated in the heart of Guwahati, Assam. The project aims to enhance the pilgrimage experience and bolster tourism infrastructure by modernizing and upgrading the existing access corridor. This involves comprehensive planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure improvements, including pathways, landscaping, lighting, signage, and amenities to ensure convenience, safety, and accessibility for visitors. Moreover, the project emphasizes the preservation of cultural heritage and environmental sustainability, integrating indigenous architectural elements and eco-friendly practices. The redevelopment of the Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple Access Corridor holds immense significance not only as a religious site but also as a cultural and tourism hub in Assam.
