🚴♂️ Inspiring Leadership in Action 🚴♂️ On July 2, we witnessed a remarkable moment as the outgoing Prime Minister of the Netherlands, #MarkRutte, cycled his way out of his office. This powerful image fills us with both joy and hope for the future. In the #Netherlands, cycling isn't just a mode of transport—it is a way of life embraced by all, including its leadership. Mark Rutte’s choice to #cycle sets a shining example for world leaders everywhere to adopt #sustainabletransport practices. Imagine a future where such commitment to sustainable transport is not just an option, but the first choice and the norm. We hope to work towards such a future when we see similar dedication in #India and across the globe. 🌍🚴♀️ Let us pedal towards a greener, healthier future! Video courtesy: @MiesBee (From X)

Great news, now already on paper, hopefully also coming to realization in the coming years. Quoting from BikeEurope’s article: The European Cycling Declaration released this week by the European Commission is meant to contribute to the EU's increasingly ambitious climate and environmental objectives. It is composed of 8 building blocks: local production, cycling policies, healthy mobility, infrastructure, favourable cycling conditions, road safety, tourism and collecting data. So among other targeting to: … release more coherent policy support, greater consistency across EU Member States and billions more for investments, … contribute to achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal, the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy and the Zero Pollution Action Plan … align with principle 20 of the European Pillar of Social Right, that everyone has the right to access essential services of good quality, including for transport. … create conditions to increase the European production of a broad range of bicycles and their components, including access to materials, equipment and maintenance of a global level-playing field through existing EU trade defence instruments

Dear cycling industry, show us what you've got! Over the past months and years, the cycling industry has left its mark on EU policy, being a considerable part of the Mobility Transition Pathways and anchoring the EU Cycling Declaration for years to come. Now it's time to prove that indeed we are a sustainable, innovative and visionary industry and show the EU and the world what we are made of. As of last week, the EU has launched the call for pledges as part of the transition pathways. How does it work? 1. You have a look inside your organisation and identify areas where you are already doing amazing stuff in regards to sustainability, diversity, inclusion, resilience or digitalisation. OR you identify the goals you've set yourselves for the future in these areas. 2. You formulate pledges to show what you already are doing and want to achieve. 3. You submit your pledge here: https://lnkd.in/e3QZRUSv Why should you participate? We need to show political and economic stakeholders that the cycling industry is a driving force for the twin transition (green, digital) to inspire change, show leadership, and attract investment. Let's go! 🙌 #cyclingindustry #transitionpathways #EUpolicy

🌍🚲The European Union has officially embraced the European Declaration on Cycling, recognizing cycling as a #sustainable, accessible, #inclusive, affordable, and healthy mode of transport. 👉 The Declaration is based on eight core principles, encompassing cycling policies, inclusivity, infrastructure development, road safety, and more. While not legally binding, this Declaration serves as a strategic guide for EU and member state policies and investments, aiming to reduce #pollution, achieve transport #decarbonization, and boost #energy efficiency, all in line with the 2050 targets. This significant endorsement occurred during a meeting of member state transport ministers, highlighting the recognition of the multiple benefits of cycling and its role in European industry, stimulating innovation and economic growth. This marks a crucial step forward in promoting active and sustainable mobility on a large scale. 🌱🚴♂️ Source: https://lnkd.in/djKQcAbJ #sustainability #mobility #eu #bicycle

Cycling is one of the most climate-friendly modes of transportation. It therefore should play a crucial part in European and national climate policies, in particular since the transport sector is very much lagging behind other sectors in decarbonising. With the draft National and Energy Climate Plans, EU Member States have been putting their 2030 reform plans to the European Commission. Our analysis shows that, across the board, EU Member States still fall short on leveraging the potential of cycling. But it's a mixed bag. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e97NiJ8H

Climate change research & evidence-based policy | existing building adaption | design think | research trained, PhD & practice: UK reg. architect & MCIAT | interdisciplinary | education of built environment professionals
These very beneficial changes in Paris & other cities are made possible by great mayoral leadership. If I was a mayor for a day my 3 priorities would be cycle infrastructure👇, moratorium on demolition (stop loss of embodied carbon & more upfront carbon being added), and pushing for higher regulation of vacant buildings to make sure every building is in-use & an efficient use of land, retrofitted to be gas-free & energy efficient.
"A startling statistic emerged in Paris last month: during the morning and evening rush hours, on representative main thoroughfares crisscrossing the French capital, there are now more bicycles than cars – almost half as many again, in fact". https://lnkd.in/e3r2WJtc Cycle use is up by 1,000% since the 1990s; driving down 45%. This was only possible because successive mayors have taken a stand and built a safe cycling network no matter how much drivers complained. So much of the difference between living in a community that is good for citizens, and not, is politicians with a commitment to the public good and the willingness to take a stand. #futuregenerations #sustainability #climatecrisis #activetravel #leadership #20mph #radicalsocietaltransformation diolch Lee Waters MS

Interesting to be at the Round Table event of the European Commission on the mobility transition pathway. In which the plans are discussed for the mobility industry. To make the European ecosystem green, digital, and resilient. Good to have the cycling industry at this stage, along with major industries, being the automotive, railway, and maritime. Although we, as an industry, are somewhat smaller. It is clear we play an important role in making this transition a success. E.g. in the transitions from jobs from the declining automotive industry towards the growing cycling industry. I am looking forward to the next steps and the positive impact we can have as an industry, with the support of Europe, on making cities more liveable. 📸 by Cycling Industries Europe
