Last week, we invited you to share your visions for the national sustainable transport budgets, and here are some of the key insights. Many of you emphasised the need for high-quality networks of footpaths, cycling tracks, and public transport. Additionally, there was a strong call for enhanced road safety and a significant reduction in vehicular emissions. With our urban areas facing the challenges of increasing vehicle populations and the resulting congestion and pollution, it is essential that our policies and budgets work together to foster sustainable cities. In the interim budget announced in February this year, the government took a bigger step towards sustainability by increasing the allocations towards pollution control from INR 756 crores to INR 859 crores, under the National Clean Air Programme. They also introduced several policies to promote the electrification of buses. This reaffirms our hope that the upcoming Union budget for 2024-25 expected in July, will align with public demand for #sustainability.
