In a recently published research article, “Transitioning from Faculty-Written Examinations to National Board of Medical Examiners Custom Examinations in Medical Education,” the authors describe how they moved from #faculty-written examinations to NBME Customized Assessments in a second-year neuroscience course at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. 🔷 They compared the students' satisfaction, workload, and performance between the two types of assessments, and they found that #students preferred the NBME assessments over the faculty-written ones. 🔷 The students felt that the NBME assessments reflected the national neuroscience curriculum better and enhanced their readiness for standardized exams. 🔗 If you’d like to learn more about our #assessment products and how you can make the transition, request a consultation with us: https://lnkd.in/e6fRh6Nz You can access the article here: https://lnkd.in/e2HyjjQt

It's this time of the year forthe annual recap ✒️ My 2023 Year in Recap: 1) 👩🏻⚕️🎓Started my final year of medical school. I can't express how proud I am from myself to have reached this far. It feels like yesterday I was praying to get accepted in medschool, and now I'm few months away from graduation 💙 2)🏹🎯 Archery: Won MVP Archery Award (Most Valuable Player) for the academic year 2022-2023. As well as 3rd place in the Annual Archery Tournament. 3)✒️🧠 Worked as a guest editor in Neurosphere Journal by Kings College London Neuroscience Students Society for 1 semester. 4) 📜Published 8 scientific papers ( 1 Cross-sectional, 2 Case Reports, 3 Narrative Reviews, 2 Correspondance) In addition to a newly accepted paper that will be published early in January of 2024 + many other papers under review 5) 📚 Got accepted at Aspire Program and made it to the preliminary cycle before dropping out since I didn't find it much important for my academic career nor personal development. 6) 📖 Read 2 books (other than Medicine :p), and read few chapters from other books that I didn't have the chance to complete yet. 7) ⚕️ Successfully organized the first Lebanese Medical Students Congress as the Chair of the Scientific Program 8) 🧠 Wrapped up my term as the President of the Walter E. Dandy Neurosurgical Club - Lebanon Chapter 9) 🎙️Tried Podcasting for the first time in my Life and even won top 3 (but still couldn't complete it because of exams and schedule) 10) 👩🏻⚕️🧠 Completed a 1 month elective in the Neurosurgery department at AUBMC which strengthened my love for this specialty even more! Finally, to whoever who had a "bad year", I really encourage you to sit for an hour alone and try to remember whatever small event or achievement you experienced and write it down. We all had many undesirable events that broke us down for a moment, but we can't define our year from only these events. We should always find the good days in those 365 ones. Reflect on this year, and thank Allah for everything 💙 May 2024 be a more prosperous year 💙 Did you write down your 2023 Recap?

Scientist, Professor of Global Healthcare Delivery, Director of Knowledge Translation Unit, Research for Social Impact, Primary Healthcare for Universal Health Coverage, Reducing Inequities
I was privileged to hear this in person. And what a courageous, thoughtful and thought-provoking speech it was. It’s a must to listen to this. So click on the link if you haven’t already. Three lessons reasonated particularly for me. Here's how it's landed for me. First, academia’s obsession with reputation over impact. The academic enterprise at its most egoistic leaves me cold - all rankings, H indexes, grants, publications, affiliations and titles. Metrics that do not matter at all to people who seek care from the world’s flawed health systems or who are excluded from being empowered with trustworthy and timely information in language that does not exclude. Second, our default towards crisis as a culture. The legacy of the struggle against apartheid, and the pandemics of HIV and COVID has wired us for this. And it is costing those whom we lead. We can only dismantle this and build a healthy growth culture intentionally and with discipline. Third, the cost of being a black academic and leader. The weight on individual shoulders is immense. It is costing people’s health and is a deterrent to young people claiming career opportunities that will lead to leadership. Thank you for serving UCT Ntobeko. For your example of leadership. And best wishes for your next chapter at the SAMRC.
Professor Ntobeko Ntusi, the chair and head of the Department of Medicine at UCT) and Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH), assumes the role of president and CEO of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) from July. He bid farewell to UCT and GSH on Wednesday, 22 May, in what was a maiden valedictory lecture for UCT. Read more: https://qr.codes/3hQGRc
