#FinOpsX is a wrap! At IBM Consulting, we declared 'FinOps is Foundational', and then we actively participated in this conference to determine how we can prioritize our clients' needs in their FinOps adoption journey! Here are some key takeaways from the ground, shared by Carol Malone & Jennifer Shoulberg Lyon: ➣ Tagging Challenges ✎ 15% of costs are difficult to tag accurately, emphasizing the need for tagging expertise. ➣ Showback to Chargeback Journey ✎ After a business successfully implements showback for cost transparency, the journey towards chargeback and allocating financial responsibility typically takes an average of 12-18 months. ➣ Forecasting in Non-Steady State Environments ✎ There is a high demand for tools that can forecast in dynamic settings without historical data, which is crucial for financial planning adaptability. ➣ FinOps for AI vs. AI for FinOps ✎ AI serves different roles in financial operations versus applying financial principles to AI projects, both critical in today's business. ➣ Maturity Levels and Continuous Evolution ✎ The FinOps Foundation has three maturity levels: crawl, walk, and run. However, due to the rapid pace of change, the foundation stated, "There are no runners." ➣ Granular Cost Management ✎There was a call to cloud service providers to provide more granular data points, with a client stating, "I can't manage what I can't measure." Leaders AJ Nish, Andrew Midgley, Nick Deinzer, and Chandrasekhar (Chandra) Narayanaswami led great conversations and offered valuable insights at FinOpsX this year. Look to them for perspectives on the FinOps landscape! James Stevenson, Joseph Morrison, Elisabeth Popkie, Aliye Ozcan, MBA, Christine Selph, Karen Feldman, Varun Bijlani, Joel Rushing, IBM
