Tonight we have been learning the adventures of Ana Zigic. She has been rowing with Captain Victoria Monk, Eleanor Reynolds and Abbey Platten a total of 3.000 miles across the Atlantic in just 39 days supporting Teenage Cancer Trust, Endometriosis UK, Eating Matter and Women Sports Club. This team shows that everything is possible when you train, stay focus and determined to achieve your goals. The team has completed the #WorldToughestRow in the Atlantic being able to reach successfully Antigua. Their extraordinary story encourages women and girls around the world to go the extra mile in sports as well as in life. No matter how high the waves were, no matter what the weather conditions were, how tired or hungry they were, which animals they encountered on the way, how much equipment they lost during the row, the team stayed focus, supporting each other and being brave. As in sport, these are essential skills for life and in business too. Huge congratulations and thank you Ana Zigic for sharing with us your incredible story! #WICT Sarah Golley Nina Buisson Sharad Sharma Sarah Wood Udita Singh Alex Reichl

Our children are growing up in a youth sports society where winning is the only thing that matters. I see it at every game: floods of tears from children who cannot handle losing or have had little playing time. The latter is more damaging. Kids at nine years old are now being spoken about as ELITE. This is laughable. Youth sports could be our one shot to get kids active, not just as kids but also as they grow into adults. If done right, youth sports could provide kids with a much-needed healthy outlet and positive role models, which could plant the seeds for a lifelong love of physical activity. Yet, we are doing it all wrong. We have turned it into an elite, competitive minefield accessible only to those who can get the team the WIN. Even recreational sports are now about winning. Children are not getting playing time because the coach values winning much more than character-building. My thoughts are - IF YOU PICK THE PLAYER, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING THEM. The focus has shifted from process (skill development and having fun) to outcomes (competitions and winning), leading to diminished intrinsic motivation, poor mental health, injury, and high rates of burnout. Over the last seven years, I have witnessed the damage done to young children who are now basing their self-worth on how good they are at sports and if they win. They are a failure if they are not a member of an acronym league. When will leadership step up and educate the soccer community on this? Something has to be done, and soon! Strategic advisor at Sajeimpact. Former MP for Loughborough. Chair - Leics Business and Skills Partnership Business Board - Dir. Sports Think Tank. Chair - Sport for Development Coalition. Chair - Active Together
Today we have a launched the #STT2024Manifesto The Sports Think Tank- a collection of chapters from 29 organisations from right across the Sport, Physical Activity and Wellbeing sector. With tight financial pressures on government we wanted to offer the parties cost neutral marginal gain ideas that would boos the nations levels of physical activity and wellbeing. We have cover from Play to elite sport, and from cradle to ageing well and hopefully much more in between. We highlight the need for the sector to do better on diversity and inclusion and tackling inequalities. There are far more areas we have not yet covered, this document scratches the surface of what we can achieve when collaboratively working together. And by taking a systems approach working WITH politicians to unlock the opportunities. Too many people to mention and thank but over the coming month we will be highlighting a chapter daily and the blogs and podcast series start next week too.. so check out the link and sign up for more news. The fitness demands of the areas I work with are clear, defined, and universal. There is no “special” summit of the Grand Teton for an overweight middle-aged male office worker. There is no “special” special forces selection for a petite female soldier. The fitness demands of both events are the same for everyone who attempts the event. We program to the fitness demands, not the individual, so the programming is the same regardless of the athlete. The mountain doesn’t care. You’re not special. You can’t escape “The Work” and be consistently successful. READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/gGRxa73U

#Theweekthatwas @ 20/08/2023. In a week where the circle of life became very apparent, I learned that: 1. Remaining #calm in the face of turmoil is an incredible strength even if it's perceived as being aloof #poise 2. #Responsibility is a decision influenced, not determined, by age 3. Dishonesty is a sure-fire way to destroy any #relationship, especially with oneself #maninthemirror 4. #Occasionaltreats can be a form of recognition; regular treats defeats this purpose 5. It is abhorrent for a healthy, able-bodied adult to place a burden on others when they're perfectly capable of earning a living themselves #getoffthecouch 6. It's a real watershed moment when, as a parent/leader/teacher/elder/coach/ [fill in the blank], there's the realisation that it's not #allaboutyou 7. Learning and growth happens in that sweet spot between pressure and boiling point #faceyourfears #pushthrough 8. Being a #productive, #contributing human isn't all about paid work 9. Hi all! It has been awhile since last time me been up on the walls here so first of all: Thank you for the birthday wishes! - it is nice been in adult age even thoguh having a blue over lost younghood when talking athletics succeeding, those years are gone and many have probably only now in the pasr few years understood why, as many people not never seen me resulting have only noticed that they actually are not even necessary to be a sportler or athlete- where is difference which some can’t stand but they have to, which has unfortunately been one kind of fight itself even though not supposed to. Few days ago I went for training to run first cooper time/ 12mins on the track in my adulthood without training for it or only for it reaching 2100 meters with pretty good and steady round times ~ 2:30mins per 400meters. After this I tried out my muscles with weights in between 45 to 110kg’s, then hopped over few fences easily in hight 60-70cm’s with few step of speed which after long jumped about ~3,5meters with 10 meters speed. Last of all I ran 100 meters with time 14.3sec’s. 400 meters which I ran with my timer/ watcher friend included some speed walking and fun going which was not timed. Swimming did good after all this which also I was happy about including starts and positions, breathing and pulse which I only checked after cooper reverting in few minutes from 144 to 120. Looking forward to compete on adult series in the future, getting into new goes or improving old ones. What else has been going on is called: a lot. Networking in general, making a place as a supervisor to myself so paying me in to be part of wont make a problem to any payments which already has been approved, me keeping to grow knowledge of others needs when meaning of to fullfill their capabilities to have a job while also having myself a change to get rights too which sometimes can be challenging when in position to problem solver haha. Succeeding anyway and impressing in a way that support to be just included does excist. Sports like ice hockey and football in world champions 2024 was in my following to effect which boozt’s are known and brought up also by media in term ”hypnotizing” which is not right term but as above: boosting more likely. When money is not the power but mind itself it can make a lot of changes as we all know, but it is nothing to fight for. There where sponsors already are supporting to keep up the good go, can some be of course to be paid of to support because we are also talking about money movements- I don’t bet, I only gamble so we will se how this improves hopefully soon too. I did also follow european athletes this year where I have been noticed but not satisified yet because attention is not enough- never has, I am an athlete myself so successfull people can understand this side also their team members and professionals who knows individualism. There is much more but until next time as characters are running out! 🔥 Nina

The soccer community must come together as a family. We must be part of something bigger than us, forming trust and respect, where everyone becomes one. Soccer connects us all. We need to look at WHY we do it. We need a shift in our youth sports culture, not just soccer. I am concerned about the next generation of children playing sports. Quitting because a team is losing or because you are not on the A team is rife in youth sports. At the younger ages, this is parent-driven. There has to be a massive investment in educating parents. Our culture only focuses on winning and thinks of ME over WE. When it comes to children playing sports, we become very selfish. It is not easy being selfless in today's culture. I have struggled to get parents to 'buy in' to giving rather than getting. These are our club values, and we will continue to work on this. A culture has to be connective, caring, and authentic. If we want to 'Foster the best playing environment,' we need a culture shift. We will never produce the right environment for our children if we do not. There is a saying: YOU CANNOT BECOME WHAT YOU WANT BY REMAINING WHAT YOU ARE. The leadership of all sports organizations needs to be more demanding about long-term development and educate parents and players on how to embrace this. All worthwhile things take time, and the time for change is now. Introducing the first two of Seed’s eight Cultivating Communities partners, Hells Bells FC and Bugeisha Club... Hells Bells FC is a radically trans inclusive grassroots football club open to all women, trans and GNC folk of any ability. Based in east London, the club is a celebration and bastion of diversity and provides a vital safe space for its players. Bugeisha Club is built on life long alliances between mixed Asian women on their journey to prepare for the apocalypse. By day they are art directors, music producers, dancers, and actors. By night, they are martial artists, vigilantes, and contortionists. Both of these incredible communities were founded, in part, to create a safe space for marginalised groups to come together and imagine new potentials. There's a powerful intimacy to being welcomed into these spaces and for this we deeply thank both communities. Seed, Amplify’s student and Gen Z specialist agency is launching Cultivating Community, a research project in partnership with eight youth-run communities. To learn more about them and get deeper into the insights they've shared with Seed, sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eD_JQ7db Find out more about Seed HERE: https://lnkd.in/eaSMPXkr #collectives | #collaboration | #community | #content | #brandexperience | #experiencedesign | #experientialmarketing | #GenZ | #youthmarketing

Barclays Women’s Super League is the first national UK body to mandate training on female-specific health in pro clubs! 👏🏽 What a game changing step to demonstrate commitment to women in sport, something we are passionate about at Mondays. This is about resources and support being committed to professional women sportsclubs so that they not only can, but MUST embed expertise in female health across their entire organisation. When working with female players it's no longer good enough to be an expert and qualified at your job (coach / trainers / physio / S&C) you must also need to understand female physiology. With the mandatory training in gender specific, female health it will bring huge benefits to female footballers, help avoid any (suspected) unnecessary injuries and ultimately improve performance. Women are not ‘little men’. All 24 clubs will also appoint a Female Athlete Health Lead who will be responsible for implementing the training and ensure female health is an integral part of their club - the first sport to do this 💪🏽 we'd love to see this in rugby, golf, rowing, tennis .... “Female athlete health is a key focus for us across women’s professional football and we are fully committed to supporting and improving this area of the game.” Andy Hudson, Performance Support Manager Congratulations should certainly go the team at The Well HQ for their great work in making this happen 👏🏽👏🏽 Mondays work with a number of clubs (including the girls in blue 💙) to make football female friendly by providing their players, employees and fans with sustainable period products. This is a simple step to make the sports environment female-friendly by providing an essential, that helps out with a natural bodily function, just like toilet paper without stress or worry so everyone can 100% focus on the game ⚽️🏆 #BarclaysWomensChampionships #BarclaysWomensSuperLeague #womenshealth #womeninsport #lionesses #womensfootball #femaleathlete #femaleathletehealth #menstrualcycle #chelseafc #femaleathletes #organicmondays #perioddignity #menstrualhealth #girlsinsports #webelong

Yes, done and dusted. My interactive session with the girls was #fun and #impact #loaded. We had a swell time togather. Our take home was that #character is what constitutes the #personality of an #individual while #charisma is the outward attraction a person has which #attracts people to her. #Good #character will #position a person for #greatness therefore we must #work on our #character. #Good #Character will #enhance our charisma positively for #better #impact in the society. So, it's about our #lifestyle. How we #conduct ourselves in our #daily #activities as we #relate with others. Think about it. At the end of the session we #resolved to make every #effort to work on ourselves as to be #ladies of #worthy #personalities. #Smileofthegirlchild #EuniceVictorIshikaku
