I am loving the progress Intramotev is making with their #Revolt solution to transform freight rail operations. This will be the world's first deployment of self-propelled battery-electric railcars in a traditional freight train, using regenerative braking and battery technology to reduce diesel consumption from locomotives, resulting in lower costs for rail operators and reducing emissions impact from rail operations. This was a momentous day for Wabtec - unveiling the world’s largest heavy-haul battery electric locomotive destined for Australia. And, it’s pink! A reflection of our partner Roy Hill’s commitment to breast cancer research and awareness. Wabtec followed their example by making a donation to local Erie breast cancer non-profit @linkedbypink. Today, Wabtec Corporation and Roy Hill gathered to celebrate the debut of the #FLXdrive, the world’s first 100% battery-powered, heavy-haul locomotive for mainline service. The ceremony unveiled the unique, striking pink-colored locomotive at our design and development center in Erie, PA in front of employees, customer executives, and government and community officials. “This FLXdrive locomotive represents a major step in the journey to a low-to-zero-emission future in the rail industry,” said Rafael Santana, President & CEO of Wabtec. “The FLXdrive is driven from within by our battery technology and the innovative spirit of our employees. Last week, we celebrated our Topping-Out Ceremony, marking the highest point in the structural frame of our Central Lithium Electrolysis Optimisation Plant (CLEOP) in Frankfurt-Höchst, one of Europe's largest industrial parks. The event was attended by local industry stakeholders, including Infraserv GmbH & Co. Höchst KG. This marks an important milestone for Vulcan as we work towards producing the first carbon-neutral lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) this year. Vulcan’s CLEOP will convert the lithium chloride from our Lithium Extraction Optimisation Plant (LEOP) into LHM, used for battery production in electric vehicles. CLEOP will focus on optimising operating conditions in preparation for start of commercial production. It will also serve as a product testing facility for its offtake partners and a commercial readiness training ground for Vulcan’s team. This is a very exciting time for Vulcan as operations continue successfully at LEOP, where the start of production was announced last week. Go Utah Since 1940, titanium has been produced via the Kroll Process which is complex, costly, and very carbon intensive. This has resulted in titanium metal traditionally being used in specialized applications where its physical benefits are critical despite its cost. IperionX's HAMR Process was developed by Dr. Zak Fang at the University of Utah with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s ARPA-E Program. The HAMR Process can produce titanium metal at a lower cost and with lower carbon intensity than the Kroll Process, and has the potential to rely completely on renewable energy. It can also utilize titanium scrap feedstock to produce 100% recycled titanium metal powder which is otherwise downcycled or landfilled. The HAMR Process can also enable cost reductions up to 75% at full commercial scale. IperionX's low-cost, low-carbon titanium has the potential to disrupt the metals industry. Titanium could be used in a variety of industries from consumer electronics, electric vehicles, to construction and more.
