Sadly, I didn't know much about this tragedy until I was already working in occupational health. So many other people don't know about it at all. Workplace safety has come such a long way since these poor souls died in their workplace. But, we still have a long way to go to ensure that all workers have the opportunity to live a healthy life even after a lifetime of work. If you are interested in learning more, the following books are good resources - Triangle: The Fire That Changed America and Flesh and Blood so Cheap: The Triangle Fire and Its Legacy. #educateyourself #safety #occupationalhealth
Today, at the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, our leaders will help dedicate a memorial to the tragic event’s victims and legacy. Reflecting on that day in 1911, and all that has happened since, we recommit ourselves to working together for a safer, stronger future.

I've made so many great friends from the “Nice Guy/Gal Awards”. And what I particularly love is how people in my network step up to help one another. So, with that, let's open nominations. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EDT on Thursday. There are only 3 requirements: 1) you have to be connected to the person you nominate 2) you can only nominate one person per week 3) you can’t nominate yourself 😀 If you want to provide a brief reason for your selection, that’s great, but it’s not a requirement. Let’s recognize people who make a difference simply by being nice. Have a great day, everyone. https://lnkd.in/e6rXxApf #network #sportsbiz #people #niceguy #networking #sportsmarketing

"ACEs science can prevent school shootings; first people have to learn about ACEs science." Jane Stevens, ACEsConnection
YES! “Thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me ... To those who thought they were putting water on my fire, you were really adding gas to it.” - Coco Gauff AND, Kimberly Bryant, I’m quoting your quote of Coco Gauff’s quote and adding that I love this and thank you both for incredible inspiration. Here comes the important ramble: Also, Kimberly, for some reason I was compelled yesterday to rewatch “The Matrix.” I kept thinking of your sentiment on “Code or be coded.” Interesting juxtaposition here. We need to be pouring gasoline on the fire of fighting for equity on ALL fronts. Code or be coded. Serve and return like a champ or be served and coded. The easy-to-bake-in inequity of AI is an existential threat to anyone who isn’t a White male of means. It needs to be taken with deadly seriousness. We need champions and people of good intent pouring gasoline on each other’s fire in every corner fighting for equity on all fronts, especially, however, on the front of Black maternal and infant mortality. Think of Serena Williams. How many Black women don’t finally get their life threatening concerns considered? The U.S. maternal mortality rate for Black women is 2-3 times that of White women. This doesn’t factor in the injuries likely thousands more Black women endure during labor and post partum. If, and as, medical professionals look to AI for speedy and thorough solutions, we must somehow make sure factors of caring for all are considered: Epigentic effects of historical and collective traumas? Will those factors be coded in before BIPOC and LGBTQIA patients need those factors and considerations coded in for their optimal care, or survival? How thrilling it is to witness history today as 19-year-old phenom #CocoGauff claims the coveted #USOpen2023 title! Coco's remarkable achievement as a young champion sets her amongst a very small class of tennis legends who secured this coveted achievement as teens. This alone makes her win incredibly joyous, but it's the strength of her faith, self-confidence, and self-efficacy in the face of victory (and in the shadow of past failures) which shown brightest for me today. In her victory speech on the podium she not only thanked her family and the members of her team, she also boldly thanked those who doubted her, turning their skepticism into fuel for her blazing fire. “Thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me ... To those who thought they were putting water on my fire, you were really adding gas to it.” - Coco Gauff It was at THIS moment that I stood to my feet in my living room and gave Coco a standing ovation! With these few powerful words Coco reminded us all of the boundless power of self-confidence, especially in our talented young Black girls. And I for one couldn't be more proud. 🏆 #inspiration #blackexcellence #blackgirlmagic #usopen2023 #cocogauff

Kudos. Brava. Kudos. There aren’t enough words…well let us allow some of the evidence to speak for itself… “And then, in terms of the faculty, it's even more so. It seems like every faculty person is the same exact background, older, white individual, most likely grew up in [State], probably went to school at [College]—as well—then practiced, and they're now kind of in their retirement. So, it seems like it's almost the same individual throughout the day. I mean, there are a few faculty here-and-there that are either younger or come from different backgrounds. And, often times, those are the ones that everyone likes to go to because they're more cognizant and aware of the challenges students are facing and are more empathetic to the day-to-day things that we have to do.” Equity, diversity and inclusion are NOT buzz words or solely aspirational goals. They are a matter of true commitments to professionalism and our supposed commitment to healthcare and to do no harm! #equitydiversityinclusion #inclusiveleadership #belonging #healthequity #healthcareethics #academicmedicine #dentaleducation #healthjustice

🎙️Reminding myself that the feeling of hopelessness right now IS the political project to keep us debilitated, in fear and in-fighting. We get through by seeing this strategy for what it is, by doubling down to lean on and build power together, as we have before. Helping organisations take their people from burning out to brilliance so that they can boost their productivity and achieve high performance | Coach | Speaker
As we prepare for another England nail biter tomorrow (phrase chosen carefully because it sounds better than 'snooze fest') I've been reflecting a lot on the criticism that Gareth Southgate has faced There's tactical concerns There's issues with selection But one of the most interesting things? Is that he has brilliant people available to him, but he's not managed to get the best out of them. A lot of companies face the same issue - they spend hundreds of thousands to ensure they hire the right people each year. But a lot less time and energy go into helping them perform at their best. - Helping them avoid overwhelm - Understanding what they require for peak performance - Providing education and support for individuals to get the most out of their working day Southgate's team have got out of the groups - but many agree that if they don't change their approach, they'll struggle in the later rounds Many well-being offerings are 'fine' for raising awareness of issues, and celebrating well-being topics at certain times of the year But if we're going to focus on high performance as a business, then well-being support has to have a performance-focus. If this is something you'd be interested in discussing further? Book a call using the link below, and I'd be happy to discuss common well-being and performance themes we're seeing in the businesses we work with https://lnkd.in/ezZfmDju
