It’s always a real pleasure to supervise and support early career researcher colleagues in their first study. This study is a great example of collaborative working between clinicians and academics! We identified numerous barriers to the adoption of VPTs amongst primary care dentists in public and private primary dental care settings in the UK. Limited resources directly resulting from limited funding of state-based care as well a lack of knowledge and trust in vital pulp therapies and their outcomes were the key barriers noted. Addressing these barriers requires continuing research and the dissemination of findings and guidance, with changes to education and health service policy, structure and remuneration. https://lnkd.in/gAay4-cS

I help physicians cultivate a sense of calm and regain control in their personal and professional lives. Professional Coach | Writer | Amateur Photographer | World Traveler #physiciancoaching #surgeoncoaching #wellness
There has been significant improvement since I was in medical school and training, but women having children continues to be a significant challenge to navigate in the medical field. (I used to joke that the only other woman in the program and I had to go to the chairman's office every morning to take our pills.) https://lnkd.in/g8yDkSHu #coaching #physiciancoaching #surgeoncoaching #physicianwellness #surgeonwellness #physiciancoach #physician #surgeon #orthomastodon

Assistant Vice President for Advancement & Alumni Relations at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine
Over the past three decades, the total number of Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and osteopathic medical students has more than quadrupled to reach 186,871 in 2023. Currently representing more than 11% of all physicians and 25% of all medical students in the U.S., the osteopathic medical profession is positioned to continue growing exponentially. Between 2010 and 2022, the number of licensed D.O. physicians increased by 89% compared with an 18% increase for M.D.s. The American Osteopathic Association tracks the growth in the number of Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine and saw those numbers rise from 47,197 in 2000 to 141,759 in 2022.

Let’s talk “Pimping”… Pimping in medicine is an activity that attendings, at times, use to cement the hierarchy. They will ask students, interns, and residents, questions that may be almost unanswerable. Interestingly, when I was a student and resident, I just accepted this as normal medical culture. I thrived off of answering the unanswerable. I remember on my vascular surgery rotation winning respect when I could recite every step of every surgery, despite never seeing it before. (ADHD people often thrive in these situations.) However, you do live your life in a constant state of flight or fight. The culture is one where you don’t question authority and you fall in line. “Pimping” helps solidify this attitude. There was an article, we read for ethics at N Law, it looked at why physicians are particularly at risk for participating in unethical practices, cults, and following leaders blindly. We also looked at the Nuremberg trials and the doctors’ defense of, “just following orders.” I could draw a straight line from a culture that shames and abuses, to one that blindly follows orders. ETA- article below. You can see reasons why physicians are more vulnerable. It’s an interesting perspective. https://lnkd.in/g8M8ySG2 #societyandculture #medicaleducation #residency #doctor #ethics #followingorders https://lnkd.in/gFrWwA2X.
