The AMSI Foundation launch last week on International Pi Day reminds us of the positive impact that mathematics has on the world. As the peak body for mathematics in Australia, AMSI’s vision is that all Australians have the opportunity to develop their mathematics skills and knowledge, to enhance their careers, acquire essential life skills and to enrich their lives. We invite you to help expand AMSI’s impact by donating to the AMSI Foundation: https://lnkd.in/gv-nghet Maths and science skills are crucial for Australia’s future. Industry demand far exceeds supply and the gap is widening, according to the Australian Government Department of Education. AMSI’s own research demonstrates the decline in the study of maths in our updated and soon to be released Year 12 Participation Report Card: https://lnkd.in/gHcxrD7X There is a great deal to do. https://gofund.me/835aec3a Q: When is donating money to a fraternity a sensible decision? A: When higher education is under attack from extremism on every side fueled by a mass media and social media landscape that promotes conflict in order to weaken our institutions. When there is finally a push for the middle. When there is real optimism and progress toward bringing everyone together and putting the unity back into community. When there is a spark of hope that we are turning this thing around and returning to the values that make our country great. When we recognize that we are all stronger together no matter what our individual beliefs and that we owe it to one another to come together while respecting and embracing the issues that divide us. When we start to realize once again that diversity is a superpower and the American democracy is built upon differences in culture, differences in beliefs, and differences of opinion. When you realize that the institutions in our country that promote individual thought and academic freedom are the basis of our strength. When you see that our children are finally emerging from the cloud of Covid and learning again how to socialize and share their lives together. When you stop to remember how much the fraternities, teams, groups, organizations that were foundational in your college experience shaped the rest of your life. When it really matters. In other words... today.

Dr. Ruth Gottesman's recent act of generosity symbolizes the transformative power of education… particularly in underserved communities like the Bronx (NYC’s poorest borough). Education equips us with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to navigate the world and contribute to our communities. The result of a good education means societal progress and individual opportunity. This donation underscores the importance of investing in education (especially in fields like medicine) where access to quality healthcare can really impact lives! Having tuition taken care of eliminates a significant financial barrier that often prevents people from pursuing their dreams… it helps democratize access to education, ensuring that talented and passionate individuals (regardless of their socioeconomic background) have the opportunity to pursue careers… which, in turn, helps social mobility and our communities. I do believe that having wealth and/or privilege comes with a responsibility to uplift others and create opportunities for future generations. This sends a powerful message that I hope empowers other individuals to make a difference in the world… even if they don’t have a billion dollars! https://lnkd.in/gh4ginjz

Making smart choices isn't just about picking the right cereal for breakfast; it's the backbone of how we navigate school, work, and the perpetually moving target of human relationships. Good news on that front: The Alliance for Decision Education just bagged a cool $12.5M to boost their efforts in making young minds sharper at decision-making. This is a major leap in funding their Decision Education Research Grants and Awards Program, specifically aimed at the K-12 crowd. Got a minute? Take a gander into what the Alliance is rolling out with their Research Grants and Awards Program. It's all about giving the next generation a leg up in the decision-making department. Let's join forces to make sure as many of the little future adults in our charge have the toolkit they need to tackle the big (and small) decisions that shape their tomorrows. Race & Ethnic Studies Researcher • Hispanic-Serving Institutions Champion • Educator • Strategic Thinker
Looking for something to support in your end-of-year giving? At the Texas A&M University Race & Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI), we prioritize students and faculty conducting research that fits within our Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and Power & Inequality research initiatives. By putting #researchfirst at #tamuresi, we're the leader in supporting HSI relevant research at the nation's largest and most research-intensive HSI. So if you're in the Texas A&M Hispanic Network or otherwise know, deep down, that supporting race and ethnic studies research in Texas is something our students, state, and nation need, you're in luck! We're hosting our first ever year-end fundraising campaign here: http://give.am/RESI Our goal is 64 donors (2 for every year RESI has existed). All of the donations coming in through this campaign will go to support student (graduate and undergraduate) research connected to RESI. And if you're interested in making a larger donation, I'm happy to sit down and chat. In the longterm, RESI's goal is to be funded as independently as possible to ensure the independence of our research efforts. Please share in your networks and remember to give on November 28th (#GivingTuesday) or anytime before the end of the year. Link is above and in the comments below. #givingtuesday2023 #researchexcellence #highereducation #highered

Giving to U.S. colleges and universities was at its second highest level in fiscal year 2023, according to key findings from the CASE Insights on Voluntary Support of Education. The 757 institutions participating in the survey reported a total of $58 billion in gifts in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. With the exception of 2022, this represents the highest historical level of giving since the inception of the VSE. “The philanthropic investment of over $58 billion in higher education institutions in the United States last year should be a source of celebration and pride,” says Sue Cunningham, President and CEO of CASE. “That so many individuals and organizations support colleges and universities indicates nationwide recognition of the immense value these institutions provide through transforming lives and society.” Read the release: https://bit.ly/48vcplM

One of the things that stands out to me in this report is the fact that financial aid represents 39.2% of gifts to endowment and just 9.9% of gifts to current operations. After spending significant time this week talking with two university clients about the importance of financial aid to their finances and to their campaign goals, I am thinking about how this reality may need to be better reflected in our institutions' financial plans and if we need to be rethinking gift opportunities for financial aid to inspire more spendable gifts.

🔥$1-billion Gift Will Boost Workforce Diversity by Making Tuition Free🔥 A $1-billion donation by former professor Ruth Gottesman to Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx will permit the school to waive student tuition — $63,000 per student per year — in perpetuity. The tuition waiver will enable local students and students from underrepresented groups to pursue medical education. Healthforce Center at UCSF's Director Sunita Mutha, MD talked with The Lancet to explain how this donation will trickle down by training diverse clinicians who are able to help improve health care locally by eliminating disparities and advancing health equity. Systemic factors that discourage students from pursuing medical school begin far upstream, with disparities in the funding of public grade schools and greater undergraduate loan debt loads. Eliminating student debt up front makes medical careers more accessible to underrepresented groups than forgiving debt after the fact, Mutha said. READ the FULL STORY: https://lnkd.in/gJnnsH9i

Highlighting an opportunity to support the Boston Collegiate Charter School, a historic Boston school focused on preparing students from all backgrounds for college. Since their first graduating class in 2004, 100% of Boston Collegiate's diploma-earning seniors have been accepted to four-year colleges, and 75% have earned a degree or are persisting toward one. BCCS students achieve these high rates with the help of the Edward M. Kennedy Scholarship Fund, which supports graduates pursuing degrees by covering tuition and living expenses. Please consider supporting the Fund: 1) Purchase tickets to their upcoming fundraiser and enjoy a fun night with friend or family at local brewery 2) Make a tax-deductible donation to the fundraiser (personal, employer, or raffle item) 3) Share this post with your network https://lnkd.in/g-HNQsst
