📢 IOM has presented today recommendations on migration and mobility to the Belgian and Hungarian governments, which will hold the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024, coinciding with the adoption of the EU's New Pact on Migration and Asylum. IOM encourages the two Presidencies to ensure that the adoption and implementation of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum leads to more predictable, coordinated and humane response across all dimensions of migration and asylum. 2wLet´s hope that the new - today installed - extreme right wing government of The Netherlands does not break down to the ground The Netherlands´ reputation in the area of international cooperation, development cooperation and international justice. The CV of the new ministers and deputy ministers (called "Staatssecretaris) does fear for the worst. Dutch NGO´s and those in the past funded by The Netherlands will face difficult times. That the Department for development cooperation is renamed - back in the time- to Department of Development Aid is symbolic for a turn away of a thinking about development as a common project and not a handing out of some money from the North to the countries in the global South. Trade and gains for Dutch companies seems to be central in the thinking of the new government. RIP Dutch international reputation.
