Well done, clear commitment from AGL. It is worth noting that seasoned utilities clearly understand that firming capacity is essential in enabling further penetration of renewables in the power systems. Wartsila's BESS and flexible gas plants can help perform this firming on a second as well as on a seasonal basis. #energytransition #everysecondcounts #energy
Today, we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation in Sydney. The AGM, including question time, focused on our progress connecting customers to a sustainable future, while transitioning our energy portfolio. Our strategy lays out a clear ambition to add ~12GW of new renewable generation and firming capacity to our portfolio by the end of 2035. To achieve this goal, we have several exciting projects under development, including our 50MW battery at Broken Hill and development of a 500MW battery on the site of the former Liddell Power Station in the Hunter region. As we progress our strategy, we will continue to work with customers, communities, industry, and government to advocate for the coordinated decarbonisation of Australia’s electricity sector in a way that balances energy reliability and affordability.

Senior Vice President of External Affairs Sarah Webster will moderate a panel discussing expanding and optimizing the energy grid at the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) Policy Forum in Washington D.C. Expanding and upgrading transmission capacity is necessary to accommodate the integration of renewable energy and storage resources spurred by public investment and private demand. This panel will discuss solutions for building this much-needed infrastructure, including improvements to regional and interregional transmission planning, greater use of grid-enhancing technologies and advanced conductoring, reforms to permitting processes, and more. https://lnkd.in/eBtzRsjq #PatternEnergy #PatternPeople #ACOREPolicyForum #Sustainability #Transmission #RenewableEnergy #RenewablePower #CleanEnergy #CleanPower

The benefits of transitioning to renewable energy are much spoken about, but the work involved to facilitate the transition is a topic we see far less of in the news. This is an interesting read from Arup. The skills required to facilitate this change are in extreme shortage and an issue our engineering companies need to address as a matter of urgency. The sourcing of talent is just the start of that journey but how we track the talent and attract them when they are ready to move is a key to hiring great people into our industry.
Our 2024 Zunz Lecture, held in partnership with the University of Technology Sydney, explored how Australia’s transition to renewable energy will reimagine our energy grid. We brought together a cross-industry panel with diverse perspectives to discuss the renewable challenge and opportunities from a government, science and engineering, energy provider and operator, First Nations and consumer perspective. Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte, NSW Chief Scientist, laid out the complexities of unlocking the renewable energy sector and transforming the grid, encouraging industry to embrace uncertainty: “A renewable and decarbonised future for Australia is now less certain than it was in 2020, and that is a good thing. With rapid technology advances in battery storage and solar, we now have a plethora of options to build a renewable industry.” Missed this years’ event? I was delighted to see the Connecticut Green Bank win one of the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) awards for 2024 State Leadership in Clean Energy for its Green Liberty Notes Program. Congrats to the team! At Raise Green we worked tirelessly with the CT Green Bank team (Bryan Garcia, Bert Hunter, Eric Shrago, David Beech, Rudy Sturk and many more) over several years to imagine, structure, and deliver this program so it can provide small-dollar investors with the opportunity to support and benefit from clean energy development. It is the first one-year maturity designated green bond offered via a crowdfunding campaign, meeting the Green Bond principles of the ICMA - International Capital Market Association, and it's accessible to accredited and non-accredited investors with an easy online process that doesn’t involve a broker. Great write-up from CESA: "Investments start at $100 and are capped at $25,000, with priority given to smaller investments. This innovation makes it possible for everyone, regardless of income, to invest in Connecticut’s clean energy transition. Like other savings instruments, such as certificates of deposit, a competitive market rate of interest is paid at maturity (the previous offering was between 5-5½ percent). To date, more than $2 million in investment has been raised through the notes to support energy efficiency retrofits for small businesses. According to the judges: “The Connecticut Green Bank’s Green Liberty Notes Program is innovative and opens the rewards of the clean energy economy to a new community, extending the benefits so everyone can participate. The threshold to entry is low and the return on investment is good. Other states could adopt this highly replicable and cost-effective program.” 😃 😄 🙌 #awardwinning #inclusive #climatefinance #climateinvesting
The Clean Energy States Alliance is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 State Leadership in Clean Energy Awards: California Energy Commission (CEC) for its Flexible Demand Appliance Standards for Pool Controls program; Connecticut Green Bank for its Green Liberty Notes Program; Maryland Energy Administration for its Community Solar Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Grant Program; and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center for its Accelerating Clean Transportation (ACT) School Bus Program. “The Clean Energy States Alliance was founded on the principle that states are the driving force behind this country’s clean energy transformation,” said CESA Executive Director Warren Leon. “CESA’s State Leadership in Clean Energy Awards recognize state innovation and accomplishments and share best practices so that creative programs in one state can spread to others.” Read more about the 2024 award winning programs here: https://lnkd.in/gr56DUfd

Exceptionally proud to help bring this campaign to life as we secure a clean energy future for Queensland💧 We know Queenslanders are worried about the impacts of climate change, but research suggests communities think we do not have the technology to decarbonise. And that's partially true - right now, we don't have a clean, reliable way to store renewable energy for when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing. Because at the (literal) end of the day, we need to be able to keep the lights on for millions of people. But pumped hydro - a 100-year-old technology - is the key to a renewable energy revolution. It's a critical part of Queensland's future energy mix. Stability and reliability through something as simple as water. So, how can we guarantee enough energy to meet demand? How do we make the most of renewable energy? #HydroIsHow Queensland Hydro https://hydroishow.com.au/

Principal | Timber Cove Energy Solutions, LLC | Inspiring innovation to decarb the grid through efficiency and electrification
This is a showcase of how rural, high fire risk areas can be decoupled from the electric grid for safe, reliable, and clean energy. Additionally, if we think about how electrification could be done concurrently, this allows targeting locations where, when electrified, gas infrastructure can be shut down. This will reduce the fixed gas infrastructure costs and reduce the likelihood of exponential gas rate increases as CA is decarbonized in the coming decades.
Yesterday, Sonoma Clean Power joined Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the California Public Utilities Commission, BoxPower, and Franklin Energy in celebrating the commissioning of PG&E's first 100% renewable microgrid in California, at Pepperwood Preserve.
