Art and technology, chalk and cheese?
An interesting conversation that I had recently with Tech Journalist Marcus Kirsch made me pause and consider what it is that excites me about technology. I came to realise that it’s the infinite scope of possibilities that technology holds and the potential to create unlimited ideas for good.
Technology has always had a profound impact on society, transforming the way we live, work, and create. The world of art is a favourite place of mine and no exception, with technology transforming the way artists work and interact with their audiences. From digital art to virtual reality, technology is revolutionising the art world, offering new ways for artists to create and for audiences to experience and engage with art.
As I build an algorithm designed to help artists and independent businesses alike, it was lovely to connect Jazz Executive Anthony Steinburg to our good friends, local independent gallery Zebra One in North West #london today, admiring Tracey Emin’s work. Tracey’s poetic, confessional practice spans film, painting, neon, embroidery, drawing, installation, and sculpture and thanks to technological innovation, art is now more accessible than ever before. Artists can showcase their work online, reaching a global audience without the limitations of physical space. Online galleries and platforms provide opportunities for exposure and recognition, particularly for emerging artists who may not have access to traditional art institutions.
Technology facilitates collaboration among artists and creators, even across geographical boundaries. Artists can work together remotely, sharing ideas and creations in real-time. Crowdsourcing platforms allow artists to receive direct support and funding from their audience, bypassing traditional gatekeepers. This collaborative nature fosters innovation and diversity in artistic projects.
I’m a huge fan of technology for good, and in the art sector, I can see this is being achieved with an exciting trajectory, both here in London and globally.
