“VIV YON MOND SAN VYOLANS DOMESTIK!” “Long live a world without domestic violence!” IINE staff in Lowell led a group of 50 Haitian women in a motivational chant on the final day of a three-day event to commemorate International Day for the Prevention of Violence Against Women. 💜
The first two days provided a forum for the women to share their stories of past and present experiences with violence. IINE staff noted, “The term violence was not unknown to all women.“ The forum was also a safe space for the women to suggest ways to support refugee and immigrant women, like hosting more sessions around women’s rights, leadership, and self-esteem.
On the final day, our staff presented on what violence against women looks like, intervention in typical domestic violence cases amongst migrant women, and resources available to victims of violence, and two male staff shared experiences as advocates against violence in their past professional roles as a physician and a journalist.
